Cycling "What to Wear" Tool

Bicycling Magazine just came out with an online tool for figuring out what to wear to ride in different types of weather.  Runners World has had a similar app for a long time and I always found it pretty useful during those "shoulder" seasons when the temps start to drop or rise and I can't remember what I wear in X conditions.

I don't think many of us will get much use out of this until the Fall, but I wanted to post it before I forget about it!

What to Wear when Cycling

  • Is there a Dave Corso modification on it? Basically unless it's 30 degrees and a snow storm, wear a short-sleeve jersey and bibs.image
  • More importantly is there a Trent modification that includes different levels body armor? (jk Trent - i know you're going to bounce back from this one and kill at LP!)
  • They need to add a factor for body fat % and/or age. I put in today's conditios for my ride to work (55F, calm, overcast, like to feel in-between). In addtion to their rec., I wore leg warmers and a shrt/jacket, as well as helmet cover. I feel like a wuss.

  • I will put this in the wiki, thanks!!!!
  • wow Al!

Checked it out and, no they do not apply a DC-factor.    They actually recommend a base layer, LS jersey, jacket and full tights on a 30deg, sunny day with now wind.  That's crazy!

  • In Houston 30deg, sunny day with no wind is a roll over and go back to bed because hell just froze over.
  • Ahh, I would take 30 degrees any day during the winter. A lot of the time you would need to put a "-" in front of 30 to get the right temp here and I don't think it's safe to ride out side at that point.
