Need advice re: upcoming long ride for 6/25

Hey Team,

Just looking for some advice or maybe affirmation... next week is going to be a very crazy week for me as my wife and I are closing on a house on Thursday, and likely doing a lot of moving on Fri and Sat.  My Sat long ride is likely going to get crushed but I think I can likely split it in half, and potentially get up super early and maybe do 2 hours on the trainer in the morning, and then perhaps another hard 2 to 2.5 hours later on the day at the new house, either on the trainer or possibly even take in the new area that way.

I know it's not ideal to split the run this close to IMLP, but I'm very confident and comfortable going the distance and time.  I'll likely be able to get in the ride on Sunday with no problem or very little modifications needed, and should be good to do a race rehearsal the following week.  I figured for 6/25, I can modify the workouts enough with what I've learned and knowing what wattage I should strive for I should be okay.   Any riding is better than no riding, right?!

Guess I'm just looking to see what people's thoughts are how critical that is going to be at this point.

Good chance I may lose the long run on Thursday too, but I'm going to try to get some extra miles and intensity on the runs Sun-Wed.

Thanks for your input.

  • My 2 cents is instead of trying to squeeze the ride in while doing some heavy moving just bag it for the day. I know its close to the race but you said you are comfortable with your fitness.

    Good luck

  • I'm with Steve. Bag the workout on Saturday and do it on Sunday instead (Sat is usally the longer/tougher of the two). If you really feel you must get a workout in on Sat or you'll go crazy, do the 2 hours on the trainer (interval work) and be done with it.
  • Thank you both for your insight. I think you may be right. I know next week is going to be a long, "stressful" week w/ just the final logisitics of the closing itself, finalizing the lease we have for somebody renting our place (which we confirmed today and is a huge burden off our shoulders), work, etc... probably backing off that Sat ride, or just doing an abbrieviated one will be better mentally and then I can get back on track on Monday going into the race rehearsal weekend.

    Thanks as always!
  • I would just go out and do the "work" in the morning...too many other moving parts at this point to be a good idea to cram workouts in. Get house set up and then get back to it ASAP!
