Austin McCollum Official Coach Thread
Here's your personal Coach Thread, as promised. This is where you'll return to post all your "coach" questions as responses; I'll see them and reply. This first post is here to guide you through your first year on EN, so you can always come back here.
As you'll see in this forum, I handle all manner of edits and changes. So post away, know that I reply here usually M/W/F each week.
Power User Tip: Click the Star icon by the Title of this thread to subscribe, and you'll get email updates when I do reply.
Your Notes
I can run a 10k in just over 1hr and bike 20miles in 1hr and have no idea how far I can swim or how fast

Your Homework
Tell Us Why You Choose EN & Your Season Goals
- Please reply below with WHY you chose Endurance Nation and WHY you train/compete.
- Whenever possible, please identify your goals -- time, body composition, completion...the sooner you put them down the sooner we can get towards achieving them.
Looking forward to working with you this year,
~ Coach P
Comments
- Move the Sat long ride (or "a" ride) to Wednesday and drop that Wednesday run.
- Move the Sun Long run to Thursday (as much as you can).
- Friday to Sunday is tournament time...so go crush that and we get back on it when you are home.
Good luck!!!~ Coach P
Ps, let's get you to change your profile picture here when you get a chance!!!
There are two points I wanted to work with you on as you get started...
Nutrition Focus: You are already in such a good place with what you have achieved, so we don't want to get so crazy. But I think you might benefit form watching our webinar on the Daily Nutrition for Endurance Athletes with our friend Jesse at The Core Diet: http://www.screencast.com/t/tKL7FyF6CR8x
Open Water Swim: The fear you have is real, and swimming in general will help, but you'll need to get some time in the open water as well (planned time, or events) to make sure you have a chance to grapple with it before you dive in (bad joke) to the actual race.
Do you have open water swim stuff in your area, like practices, etc?
I don't know if there are any open water swim practices in this area or not but I will talk to @Larry Peters and see if he knows of any
I love OWSing at PJ Hoffmaster State Park (~45-55 min drive). Great place for race rehearsals. Saugutuck can be nice, but it is deeper (quicker drop-off) & when I swam there the swell was relatively big.
I'm hoping to do more workouts & OWS at the site of Steelhead IM 70.3 in Benton Harbor next summer. Seems like a great place for training.
