Felt B12 recall
Hi everyone,
I figured I'd share the word, if you have not caught wind from either your LBS or various other internet forums, there are a lot of rumors right now about a potential recall of 2009 Felt B12s and I suspect B14s as well. Some people had initially reported that their LBS had called them and told them to stop riding their 2009 B12 immediately and bring it into the shop for repair. Felt so far has made no official announcement on the matter.
I spoke to my LBS last night and they were kind of surprised I knew about it, they said they had just gotten off the phone with someone very high up at Felt and that they are working very hard with their distributors across the country to get a plan in place to address the issue before they announce any final details. However, the brief story is that there have been some isolated cases of failures of the 2009 B12 fork due to a bonding issue between an aluminum headset tube (I may be totally wrong on that) and the carbon of the fork itself. Felt is going to be proactive about this and offer a voluntary (at least they think it will be voluntary) recall of all affected forks and you will receive a brand new carbon fork color matched to your bike.
I don't think this issue effects 2010 models but again I'm not sure. The final details may differ from what I previously stated. However, in the mean time if you ride an affected bike, which is definitely the 2009 B12, maybe the 2008 B12, and probably the 2009 B16, I'd take a good look at your fork, stop riding if you feel it has been acting 'funny', subjective I know, and keep your eyes and ears open for the official word from Felt. Your LBS will be the ones who handle the recall and replacement process.

This is official, and it now also affects the B16 and the S32. The issue is the Steerer Tube.
CPSC RECALLS FELT BIKES
Product recall: Felt model B12, B16 and S32 road bikes sold at U.S. bike shops from October 2008 through May 2010 for between $2,300 and $3,100. About 2,100 of these Chinese-made bikes are being recalled because their carbon fork's steerer tube can break, causing the rider to lose control and fall. Seven such incidents have been reported. Owners should immediately stop riding the bike and contact a Felt Bicycles dealer for a free repair.
Thankfully for me, Fiona is a B2, so not impacted. But PLEASE, if you own one of these bikes, take action!
