Quick Q about setting specific power alerts on a Garmin Edge(520 specifically)

I want to set specific watts targets, both low and high.  So far all I can find in setting targets based on Garmins training zones based on an FTP input.  I'm doing Optimized Intervals based on WKO4's table, which do not match Garmins power zones.  I've searched high and low and can't find a way to accomplish this.  Anybody know how?  I'll send Garmin a request, but they have not been very responsive historically to request for mods. Thanks for any input.

    Setting Range Alerts

If you have an optional heart rate monitor, cadence sensor, or power meter, you can set up range alerts. A range alert notifies you when the device measurement is above or below a specified range of values. For example, you can set the device to alert you when your cadence is below 40 RPM and over 90 RPM. You can also use a training zone (Training Zones) for the range alert.

    1. Select  > Activity Profiles.
    2. Select a profile.
    3. Select Alerts.
    4. Select Heart RateCadence, or Power.
    5. If necessary, turn on the alert.
    6. Enter the minimum and maximum values, or select zones.
    7. If necessary, select .

Each time you exceed or drop below the specified range, a message appears. The device also beeps if audible tones are turned on (Setting the Device Tones).

  • Thanks Gary, I have used the power zone alerts. I don’t want Garmin to tell me what the alert number is, I want to tell it. Like you can with cadence. I want to enter a value, as opposed to a zone. Make sense?
  • @Dave Campbell" Just tested it on my 510.  You can set minimum and maximum power settings as an alert.  Have you checked these menus?
  • The only option I can find on my 520 is zones. Perhaps I missing something though  Thanks
  • Okay, I looked a little deeper at it seems that you can set your "zones" in Garmin Connect to any number you want.  Set a hard number in there for zone 5 as the low and 6 as the high.  Then you can set alerts.  This is the only option available.  Sorry couldn't help more.
  • Thanks Gary!  I’ll give that a try. Sure wish they would just let you set it on the 520 like you can cadence. Another example of the power of Team EN!
  • Just a follow-up on this.  I couldn't make this solution work.  My Zone 4 is higher than I want to set the lower target in zone 5 and Garmin connect won't accept a lower z5 number than z4?  So, I finally got all the zones lines up manually, and when I sync to the 520, it doesn't change what's in the 520.  So, I've sent a request to Garmin for help, but not holding my breath.  Thanks for the suggestions and research Gary.
