Your First Year Inside Endurance Nation

RACE EXECUTION and how we can help you get faster by being smarter on race day. There are no medals for great swims or getting to the top of a hill first — on race day only your finish time counts. There are many ways of being faster, and here are some of the resources we have to help you out.

- The Four Keys of Race Execution Video: The Coaches walk you through the macro level elements of a successful race.

- Distance Specific Guidance: Learn the fundamentals of racing Short Course and Long Course events, from each discipline to pacing zones, etc.

- Race Specific Pages: We have aggregated information on specific races from the internet, race reports and even our own coaching resources. You can find your race Master Racing Page section.

- The Race Forums:  You can search for race reports or connect with your teammates. There are sections for 70.3, 140.6, and Marathons.

  • Hey Coach P-

Just a little bit about my athletic background...
it all started in 2014 (after listening to Ed continually tell me I couldn't do it), I signed up for a 70.3 in Princeton. I was a runner, but did not know how to bike or swim. So began my journey as a triathlete.
    2014- I did a...
Sprint Tri in July, Olympic Tri in August, and the Half Ironman in September. I was so amazed I could do it, that led to 2015- where I did my first IM in Boulder. My goal in Boulder was just to complete the race (I used the Essential Week-by-Week Training Guide by Matt Fitzgerald).  Crossing that finish line was amazing, however, as soon as I crossed it I started wondering, could I have done it faster. (Oh yeah, a side note: Mike Reilly was not at that race and did NOT call my name!) That led to
2016- and Ironman Wisconsin. I really concentrated on being consistent and followed the plan that Ed created for me which was based off the plan you had created for him.  I was super excited that I finished faster, but at the same time disappointed that I did not improve my swim or bike times.
    IM Boulder-
    1:42:25   7:35:16   5:54:49   15:28:29
    IM Wisconsin-
    1:47:12   7:40:33   4:55:44   14:36:26
Wisconsin was a tough course for me. I decided I did not want to be on a bike for almost 8 hours and decided to take some time off, hoping to concentrate on becoming a stronger cyclist. That didn't happen. Without a race, I do not have any motivation to ride my bike or swim.
    2017-
Half Marathon in April, Duathlon in May, Olympic Tri in July, Half Marathon in October.
    Plans for 2018 so far-
Half Marathon in March and April, Olympic Tri in May, Lake Placid in July.

Why join EN... besides all the fantastic ENer's I have met, and having my own personal cheerleader (Mariah),
I thought having a plan truly designed for me would help me reach my goal of becoming a faster triathlete! I guess we shall see!

    Good Luck in Los Cabos!

  • @Connie Eovino -   Thank you so much for all the detail! We definitely want to make you stronger on the bike, it’s the safest place to make you faster and the most fun.

Faster bike does take quite a bit of work, however. It is the balance of interval work over the winter and focused longer rides when the season turns. It certainly wouldn’t hurt for you to get in one or two century rides once the weather turns nice in May or early June.
Especially if they are in place is different than your usual training rides. It just breaks at the training and makes it more fun. Bonus that they don’t cost a lot of money. Let me know if that something you could work in.

Thank you also for the well wishes in Cabo. I had a great race and a ton of fun. Now it’s time to get back to work!
