I'm in too. It'll be my first IM. Also in for Austin 70.3 in October. Long way from PA - where I'm seriously considering the sauna idea! - but lots of family and history in both places. Can't wait to meet so many EN'ers!
Wow, Paul, you have jumped in feet first! Good for you! I've signed up for the Austin 70.3, and will be cheering everyone on during IMTX. Can't wait to see you in Austin in October!
Hey Kristen... yeah, like I said, I'm hooked. Can't wait to see you again in Austin! It sounds like we'll have a really big EN contingent there. Regan and the kids will be there again too.
and FWIW, your call on IMFL sure seems like the right decision.
John and I might just have to go to Longhorn to cheer everyone on!
You can hold my cold Guinness(es) for me!
You know we'd be thrilled to do that. I need to check the date. I'm hoping to defend my dissertation at the end of October. I'm scheduled to proposle July 29.
That's just amazing! I expect WTC to keep pushing the envelope on starting fields until...unfortunately...a few people drown and the waivers don't save them from lawsuits about the gross negligence of that kind of set-up. They still need more options until the supply is such that most races top out at 2000.
@Wayne, I kind of know what you are feeling. I went through the same emotions when I signed up for IMAZ last November. I am trying really hard not to let my training and the race be the center of my world, although it is hard especially with two active kids. I would say to you, enjoy the ride, train hard and enjoy your journey.
So are any of you doing IMWI? I am and am wondering how this plays out? I'm new to the Haus this year. So, I take a couple of weeks off after IMWI, start 11 weeks of OS, two weeks transition and 20 weeks of IM training? Is that a loose translation? Just thinking through my year....
Keith Jordan is an awesome race director. Will be a good course to keep those watts consistent in the flatlands of east Texas. Wondering about the swim though... where is it going to be held? From what I recall, the "lake" is fairly small to accommodate an IM swim start. If anyone can figure it out... Keith certainly can. Looking forward to the race reports next May.
The swim is in Lake Woodlands. The lake is relatively long and narrow with a full concrete bulkhead. Probably pretty comperable to Tempe Town lake, It definitately widens out more than Tempe.
I'm in. Not looking forward to the heat and humidity though. Guess I'll have to do a training camp in Hawaii to acclimate! I see that EN is planning a free camp on the course but I don't know when.
It is on the agenda for the 6PM meeting. We should know something Thursday morning.
I guess the Wilson-Picciotto house can turn into "The EN IM Texas Haus" for the race. We are a bit away from the Woodlands (60 minutes), but we do have some spare space including floors. :-)
Edited to change the time of the meeting.
Penny, Where do ya'll live? I'm from Alvin but unfortunately there are no housing options for me there. Brother has cats (allergies) and not much room. Just wondering if there ends up being any kind of rally there.....I don't feel great about not riding the course at least once to get the kinks out. Thanks!
We are down in Sugar Land, about an hour or so from the Woodlands. I'm sure there will be plenty of options to do test rides in the spring. We are a bit closer than Alvin if you want to hang with us. We have two Bichon's that are considered allergy friendly.
Sheryl, yes I am doing IMWI and yes doing IMTX along with pal Heather..... yep I will recover and do some mt biking and get the gist of the OS plan.... and then yep pick a date, normally it takes me 4 - weeks for post IM recovery, if I am not too gimped up! I will pick out a 1/2 mary or some such here locally... so I won't think about May until 2011! ya know what I mean. but yes Patrick suggested October start for May IM, but we were the nutty ones... so I will def start with the group karma thing!! and fudge some of the workouts! but don't worry too much, with weekly EN chats, and threads in General forum on I need help with Macro or Micro, I am sure you will be able to work it all out. I am very excited about a hot, windy, flat course! we can come up with some creative ways to get you heat acclimated! m
John....I can't hear you I can't hear you I can't hear you lalalalalalala. I'll be lucky if we will have had a day above 60 by May. Maybe I should set up space heaters in the pain cave instead of fans. Penny thanks for the offer...I'll keep that in the bank. Dogs are no problem. Cats aren't for me but if I drag a family member along it will be for them. Ok....gotta quit thinking bout Tejas and think about IM WI....after all tomorra's another day!
Just confessed to husband that I'm in on this. He just laughed. Relief that he wasn't angry. Can't think about this now....IMWI one week from today I will be cycling right now...hopefully back in Verona for third time and headed toward Madison!
Sheryl you nut!! just told hubby. ha ha. yes here in AR, warm too. you will have to come down and train.... or we can scheme on Spring Break in TX. remember you did NOLA from up there.. you can do TX. m

Team I am registered. I am doing Longhorn 70.3 in October (will be the 4th time) on the way to IM Texas in May.....
Welcome to the insanity all!
and FWIW, your call on IMFL sure seems like the right decision.
All the best!

That's a lot of people to cram into, effectively, a moat, around a shopping mall.
@Scott: I don't think the swim will be in the moat but in the lake in front of the mall.
Keith has said on Houston Racing's forums that the run will be 2 to 3 loops.
First week with EN. Signed up for Ironman Texas to be my first IM distance. Looking froward to following everyones progress.

Gary, where did you get your info? There is no specific course info on the race website yet. Did you do your own on the course recon?
