Catherine Branch's 2018 Thread

Hi, Patrick!  Just submitted two roadmap requests -- please ignore the first one!  (I didn't include Muncie on the form.)

Thanks!

  • You got it! I’m still playing catch-up from early November, so thank you in advance for your patience. :-)
  • No worries!  And the 70.3 in April isn’t an important race at all - I’ll just want to get out of the cold and have something to look forward to in the middle of February!
  • Here's your updated Season Plan, as promised. This is where you'll return to post all your "coach" questions as responses; I'll see them and reply. This first post is my best outline of how to proceed with your races, but you can ask any / all questions you want. So post away, know that I reply here usually M/W/F each week.

    Your Notes

Since my IMCHOO, I've built my running up to 5x/wk, 20-25 easy miles. Not much riding -- just fun rides/races on Zwift -- and no swimming. I've started core/strength work. (I'm 40, so a bit younger than the recommended 50, but I feel like my functional day-to-day strength is starting its age-related decline, so I'm trying to counteract that a bit.)

    Your Races

    • 05/20/2018 running Cleveland half-marathon
    • Ironman Chattanooga (2018-09-30) #IMChatt_18

    Season Update

These are your recommended training plans, including the date you should start each one (sometimes you won’t complete a full plan but transition to another one).  You can change your plans on the Training Plan page by clicking the Move / Change button. Learn more about each plan on the Training Plan Central Page.

    Coach Notes

Thanks for the update. I am not worried at all about the Swim right now, but I love where your run is at. Keep it rolling at 5-6 days through DEC and let's not get greedy...it will all come around soon enough when the real season starts and you start pushing through to new levels.

As you can see ^above^  there's a decent, gradual flow to your year. From the OutSeason Plan into the Swim Camp (now you can build the swim), right into the Get Fast Plan (my favorite mid year plan, also easily swapped out for a half IM if needed). Then we exit that one week early into your EN*Full Plan

    Let's get to work!

    Your Notes

I had a disappointing season. Had a great race at Steelhead (good swim, great bike, normal run), then crapped out at Lake Placid (again, good swim, but the bike took it out of me, withdrew at T2). I think I could have finished, but the rain, then the heat just did a number on me. Mentally, I wasn't there.Since Placid, I've been just screwing around. Running 2-3 times a week, going on rides with friends who still have races this year. I don't think I've lost any fitness on the bike -- riding just enough and hard enough to maintain -- but haven't been riding so much that I'm not excited for the new year.

On the races for 2020, yes I know three IM races is stupid. But I have a couple of friends doing the three with me, and we've never raced together and we want to do it, so there! IMLOU is my club event so I want to do well there. I may also throw in Steelhead and maybe Augusta as tuneup races. Steelhead because I love the bike, and Augusta is my hometown and I feel like I should do that race at least once. So ... planning for 2020 to be a super epic year!!!

    Let's get to work!

  • Thanks, Patrick! I know it's going to be a big crazy year, but I'm tired of "waiting til next year". As my husband reminds me constantly, I won't always be able to do this. And next year is a perfect scenario -- I'm dialing back work, my mother is going to be around to help with child care, I have full support from family, etc, etc, etc.

So question for you -- you mentioned a run or bike only week between Texas and Placid. Do you think the Blue Ridge camp would work there, or is that too much?

    Thanks!

  • Of course, carpe DM!I'm happy to support you and your crazy habit!

I think the blue ridge camp will be perfect. Please know that we are modifying in a little bit before2020 based on interest.Stay tuned for information coming upIn the next few days.I think it will definitely work!
