Dave Barr Official Coach Thread

@dave barr

Here's your updated Season Plan, as promised. This is where you'll return to post all your "coach" questions as responses; I'll see them and reply. This first post is my best outline of how to proceed with your races, but you can ask any / all questions you want. So post away, know that I reply here usually M/W/F each week.

Coach Notes

Great to hear from you again Dave! With your return to the bike, we want to maintain the basic run fitness you have and start the building process. We aren't in a rush so I say continue with our Run Durability Program and even consider the Run Durability on GroupMe for community / accountability. Then it's January OutSeason Plan, becuase you'll be ready by then. We recover with Swim Camp  and emerge to put some time in on the Bike (focus block). Real big fan of that early bike mojo (also a good place to insert a race as well if you have one there). Then we turn our attention to the EN*Full Plan!

Let's get to work!

    Thanks for the input.  I am adding Muncie 70.3 to the year now, how should i make changes to blend this in?
    Thanks

  • @Dave Barr - Thanks for the update. I will make some edits and let you know when I’m done.

    Thanks for the update.

  •  B) Of course! And happy new year!

    I was planning on doing WI instead of Louisville but after a bad day at Muncie, didn't continue after the swim, I have decided to not do an ironman this year.  I am refocusing on doing the St Jude's marathon the first Saturday in December to just mix it up this year.  I think that trying to train for an Ironman 3 years in a row just got old and I was over it.  I am planning on doing the January OS and then focus on Chattanooga next year with a 70.3 next summer, maybe Steelhead depending on where they put the date for that.  One thing I need to work on is getting the mojo back for the long bikes, etc.  Wondering if it might be worth a call with you to try and figure out a good plan for the remainder of this year and next year to get the fun back into Ironman training.
    Let me know what your thoughts are.

  • @Dave Barr -  hey man, no worries! It’s a mental fatigue is real and something that we all grapple with. The ability to continue to find excitement and passion for the same thing, over and over again, is no simple task. I respect where you are at. And your decision.

    We can certainly get you into marathon training, and we have several options for you. Remember, if you want to use the bike as a tool during your marathon build up you can choose the “balanced“ Marathon Plan.

     Since we haven’t talked in so long, it will be a great idea for us to catch up. Have a bunch of different ideas on how to “Hakt“ the long rides and to make them more feasible. You can set up a call with me here: https://calendly.com/pmccrann/15min
  • @Coach Patrick Thanks for the reply.  I'll be in touch in a week or so, have some work travel and want to make sure I'm good on a time to call.
