Great ADK Trail Run

I don't know if any of you have done it.  It is in the middle of most of our in season training and seems dumb to do an 11.5 mile trail run... well, it was.  I don't have a race until Sept. so when I got an email with course info I thought it would be a fun race.  I swear, minute for minute, this was tougher than my IM last year!  Not that I'm in great running shape, it took me 2.5 hours to finish this beast yesterday, and I literally can't walk right now.  If any of you have been on an ADK trail, it was all of it and more while trying to run.  But hardest of all was the descent, you couldn't run, you had to skip, hop, jump, free run... I couldn't breathe at the bottom because my body had been jarred so much!  I probably was just as exhausted from concentrating as much as running.  Boulders, roots, bare rock, and bogs.  If you are up for a running challenge, do it.  Totally self supported and 85 degrees.  I've been queasy ever since so I think I'll add heat exhaustion in there too!  Over 3000' of elevation gain and 2 peaks.  Tough.  I will let you all know that the outseason running plans work though.  I have had life to deal with for over 2 weeks without running and only running 2x's per week prior and I was feeling pretty good for about 8 miles, thank you Rich and Patrick.

  • Sounds simply AWESOME!!! I love trail running! But ya gotta tell me, where is ADK? Is that Adirondacks?
  •  Yes, the Adirondacks.  It was awesome, but the type of awesome that I said to myself  "I'm glad I did it, but never again!"  Check it out here

  • I just read the trail description. When they actually warn you that the bog will suck the shoe right off your foot, I have to wonder if you should run there.
Sounds like an EPIC yet painful event. Congratulations on the finish.
  • I know that trail---the descents are hard to run. Heck, they're hard to hike down. Congrats on your finish!
  •  Thanks!  Hardest thing I've ever done.  I try to explain the trail to some, but if they've never hiked there, its tough for them to appreciate it!
