Post your annual WKO totals

assuming you've logged it all to Strava, you can make a similar sheet from your profile. I suspect my bike #s were down as the entire OS was done on Trainer road with no mileage recorded..

  • I'll throw up my slacker numbers (or, as I try to convince myself, my efficient numbers) to make everyone else feel good.

  • I think my swim yardage HAS to be wrong!

  • 2017     712 hrs  Swim - 349,008 yds,  Bike - 6,528 miles, run - 1,622 miles,  8,349 total miles.....

Great thread to show that work alone is not everything.

    Smart/efficient training
    Talent
    Experience
    Diet
    Purpose
    Environment/Professional/Family work/stress

........all key to start the list...

    Have a great year all!

  • 2017 race results are almost the same as in 2015 when I did my first IM - Low 11h. 2016 was the year I trained the most and that when I got to 10h20 mark, but probably a flat course like IMAZ helped and thats why I registered again to IMAZ.

Have a wonderful year all !

Here is my Avg/Year 2007-2017. In 2010 I lost 3.5 months all sports d/t injury, and in 2015/16, I lost 3-4 months running d/t injuries. Skiing is downhill, walking is actual trekking or training for such.

                                                  # wkos               Hours               Distance           Avg Pace

    Here's 2017:

The years 2000-2006 are similar to this year (a little higher in s/b/r, lower in skiing, but on an old computer OS, and not easily retrievable...

We all have our own sweet spots, but I think about 5,000 miles cycling, 280,000 meters swimming, and 1050-1100 running, along with weight training 2 x/week, is what works for me to ensure a chance at racing success. Even so, I intend to up my running a bit this year to 1250 miles, to see what happens. Note that 2017's running totals above include a total of 80 miles Jan-March, due to injury recovery. I think I have solved the injury problem, none in the last nine months...

IMO, the idea is to do as LITTLE volume as possible, NOT as much as possible. AND HAVE FUN WHILE YOU'RE DOING IT!!!
  • 2017
    Bike 6961 miles  384 hrs
    Run 1496 miles  250 hrs
    Swim 415,728 yds  112 hrs
    Strength  37 hrs

@Scott Dinhofer - compare your Strava to TP .... sometimes I get dupes in TP (strava is smart enough to avoid those) but TP is more reliable for bike mileage etc at least for me if I do trainer work ... Anyway check to see if they are the same for your swim???

@Mike Roberts  perfect example of quality over quantity

  • Mine are metric 2017
    172125 metres swimming
    1357 km run
    6225 km bike
Strength and flexibility about 45 hours

Like Al, I intend to increase my running this year.
  • @Coach Patrick - I think @Francis Picard deserves an award for converting his status ^^up there^^ to imperial from metric!  :#
  • For my first year of training
    188,584 yards swimming - 55 hours
    1,083 miles running - 174 hours
    6412 miles biking - 293 hours

Haven't swam since August but have biked and run more frequently.  Bike and run are much stronger.
  •          2015           2016           2017
    Bike: 3015 mi      2977.5 mi     3247.5 mi
    Run:  798.3 mi      917 mi         906.7 mi
    Swim 288,150 y   248,400 y     251,100 y

Seem to be pretty consistent, try to get over 1000 mi of running, and 4000 mi biking in 2018.
  •           Swim Miles/Hrs         Bike Miles/Hrs        Run Miles        Total Miles / Hrs
    2017       228 / 149            4,626 /271            1,318 / 174           6,172 / 594
    2016       193                       4,683                       1,478                  6,355 / 594
    2015       145                       3,285                       2,096                  5,527 / 582
    2014       149                       2,387                       1,261                  3,797 / 449

It looks like, as in 2016, run miles decreased as I focused more on swim and bike, but some of the decrease is due to taking more recovery days after hard races, 2 wks of no running after IMLou and 2 wks off after HM in March.

  • For my first year of training

SHOULD we break out the ZWIFT to a 4th category? any idea of your mileage on Zwift as a % of total mileage?
  • Scott Dinhofer I would guess about 80% this last year for Zwift but this upcoming year will be higher
  • @Derrek Sanks... was it the 2015 season that you had your running breakthrough?   I remember you describing your progression after your successful day at Lou, but I can’t plot when this occurred.
  • @Dave Tallo - Yes, well it was another running breakthrough. I did a ~390 day running streak from Nov 2014 to Dec 2015 and had many 40+ mile weeks. That's why my 2015 total run miles was 2,096.  In 2015, I ran PRs in the 5K, 10 miler, HM and Marathon (stand alone and IM). Ran another 5K PR in 2016.
