Marc Tanguay Official Coach Thread

Here's your updated Season Plan, as promised. This is where you'll return to post all your "coach" questions as responses; I'll see them and reply. This first post is my best outline of how to proceed with your races, but you can ask any / all questions you want. So post away, know that I reply here usually M/W/F each week.

Your Notes

My race history reads like a country song; regularly interrupted by work, loss of work, starting new job (technology marketing), injury trying to catch back up, and ultimately rescheduling races to the next year. Like most endurance athletes, I’m a competitor and an achiever. But I’ve been my own worst enemy. Mentally, I’m in a great place starting 2018, and I KNOW that I can finish a full this year while balancing family & work. I completely respect but don’t fear the distance nor the training required to be ready on race day. Physically, I’m in good shape, injury free, and doing regular flexibility and strength work to stay that way. I’ve only been managing 5-8 hrs/wk training during the fall. My bike power is way off, but endurance is good. I really need guidance and structure to follow this year. I do have a concern that fast first then far may put too much stress too early, in terms of body condition. While my endurance is good, my speed and strength are way down. So do I work on improving those weaknesses first, or just focus on basic fitness first, then speed, then endurance closer to my late season races?

Coach Notes

Marc, thanks for the note. I say that you plan on the February OutSeason Plan and use the Run Durability Program right now to get on track and start the transition to more training.  The run focused plan has frequency but not a lot of intensity, so you should be okay.

I like the OS as it's manageable right now for you. You should, if you like it, to register for our Run Durability on GroupMe for some run accountability to help you stay on track this first month. We're here for you.

Let's get to work!
