How do you remember your bike workout?

OK, so I've either been spoiled by doing pre-defined Zwift workouts for the last several months where I don't have to think about what I'm doing, or I'm losing my mind as I get older.  In any case, it appears that I've completely lost the ability to remember what the heck I'm supposed to be doing when out on the bike in the real world, let alone what my target zones are.  I read and re-read today's workout before departing, and then completely forgot what it was I was supposed to be doing.  Was it 2x 8' at sweet spot then z2?  Was here some sort of z3 block in there somewhere?  What was my sweet spot range again?  Is 220w z2 or z3?  Hmmmmf.

OK, so for those of you that are like me and can't commit even simple things to memory, how do you document what it is you're supposed to be doing?  Do you just slap a post-it to your stem?  Write it on your hand?  I'm sure there must be some nifty and elegant solution that folks have come up with.

  • I write out my zones on a small piece of paper and use clear packing tape to post it on my top tube.  I do the same for each day’s ride goals and tape it to the top surface of my baseboard.  Inside I have a whiteboard in my paincave.
  • When I first joined EN, I wrote them on my arm, but now I am so familiar with the structure of wkos, I can remember them now.
  • Thanks @Doug Johnson.  Sometimes, in the quest for the 'elegant' solution we overlook the obvious simple answer.  Piece of paper taped to the stem did the trick.  Well-executed ride on Saturday.
  • I still need help from time to time on this, especially if I have re-tested and derived new zones.  I usually end up sitting on my bike, pulling out the calculated on my phone and using the new FTP to remind myself what the target is something like this:  Sweet spot = .9XFTP, Z4 = .95XFTP, Z3 = .8XFTP, etc....
  • When running I write it on my forearm. Hand rubs off. When riding it's packing tape to my torpedo or top tube. In the pain cave it's printed in LARGE print (i'm old ya know) on the wall behind my computor.
