February Office Hours Video: Love / Hate Endurance Relationship (Macro Strategies)

Thanks to all who tuned in last night (video below). I really enjoy these sessions. For those who don't know, the break down of these monthly calls is 5' admin updates, 15' Coach Presentation, then Q & A. This is a great chance to bring your questions and get me 1:1 for information, detailed answers and more.

As we learned this time, there's value in having these discussions in a group as someone ( @Paul Hough For example!) might have great information that can help you out.

Theme: Turn Problems into Learning Opportunities as you Play the Long Game

Aka, Today's Issue is Tomorrow's Advantage!

Learning points this week from the Q & A:

  • Racing at Altitude? Remember the "Rule of Three" -- if you can't be there 3 weeks before, then get there with just 3 days to race otherwise your body starts to make adaptations that reduce your ability to perform.
  • Limited OS training time? Stick with the main set as that work is more important than total workout time!
  • How to handle a slow TRP? Run with the pace you are comfortable with, unless / until is starts to interfere with your ability to hit the numbers in your other key sessions.
  • Sick Right Now? Don't fight it...long time until race day, so just recover and crush other areas of your life. Only thing worse than a missed workout is a bad one that makes you stay sicker, for longer!
  • Limited Run Time to Stay Healthy?  No worries...I'll take many consistent weeks at a "healthy" volume so your body adapts to the load. Then we can build up (in a shorter window) if required!
  • Early season race run mileage fears? Target is getting your weekly run mileage to double your upcoming race distance. HIM would be 26 miles per week for example. Turn that longer run day into a split run and work that up to about 10 miles (5/5) for two weeks, then do a 10-miler in the next two weeks. The "work" of the OS will cover the remaining fitness gap.
