JanOS 2018 Run Thread – Week 7 – Checking Run Form

Welcome to Week 7!  We’ve been at this for six weeks now, and hopefully you have been able to build durability.  But how’s your form?  Check out this week’s sidebar video for Coach P’s overview on run form.

If you haven’t checked form in a while, get someone to video you on the treadmill; have them film 10 seconds or so directly from the front; from the side; and from the rear.  Feel free to post it here if you’d like others to provide input … maybe there’s something such as an uneven arm swing, or some other tip others may see that can improve your form

Also, how are you doing with CTL (Chronic Training Load)?  Hopefully you have a nice steady ramp-up over the past several weeks.  For me, CTL never tracks in perfect linear form: I’ll get a few good weeks and then have a down week or two.  As long as the general trend tracks upward across the OutSeason I’ll be happy

Exercise/Drill for The Week:

Here’s a good exercise for helping run form and for loosening the hips.  This video shows front-to-back leg swings and lateral leg swings.  For an advanced movement, try it standing in front of a mirror without holding on to anything; put a slight bend in the supporting leg and watch yourself to be sure your hips don’t drop, and that your supporting knee stays stable (no inward or outward movement as your other leg swings)
