How Do You Plan to Execute the Bike Test?

There are many ways to execute a bike FTP test ... Zwift is pretty big ... but will you use it or keep your old-school technique

Comments

  • Going with what I'm used to...old school, regular trainer using TrainerRoad.
  • Done with bike test this morning, done with my legs too.

Brand new FTP of 257, 10 watts higher than previous test. Moving in the right direction but still shy of my best record.

NOT looking forward for tomorrow's run test.

    How did you guys do?
  • Did the shorter version of the Zwift test.  Didn't think I'd like it, but I did!  I picked the Jungle Circuit course as it was fairly flat.  It was in ERG mode for most of the WKO except for the 20-minute interval.  I also did a separate warm-up ride which helped

I also did the FPT Test (Shorter) in Zwift.    Like Paul, I used ERG for everything except for the 20 minute test.
I did have to use the Up Arrow to increase resistance on my trainer so I could keep my cadence in check.

Over all it worked very well.  However I started out a bit too strong and started to fade just a little at the end of the test.

Increased my FTP by 13 points  (old:210  new:223)
  • I did the TR Ramp test again (first time at the end of OS, late January).  As I'm starting my HIM plan this week, I tested in aero position with FTP of 250.  That's 30 watts lower than the FTP about 6 weeks ago when I was on the hoods.   I have no idea if that's common - drop of 10% or so when moving to aero from hoods.  And I've been working with the bike focus plan over the last month (except for the week off and recovery due to the flu).

I'm not completely sold on the Ramp test but I will say that the threshold wko's on TR were challenging with that calculated FTP of 280.   I'm curious if anyone else has tried Ramp and if they've found it to be accurate.  The TR leadership seems sold on it and says they eventually plan to use it exclusively at some point.
