Hacking the IM70.3 Plan

On Sunday Mar 25th, I'm racing the Florida Gran Fonda - 100 miles with 4 timed sections totaling about 16 miles.  The day before I'm considering the following 2 options:  1) an easy metric century @ Z2 giving the weekend a big volume boost or 2) a 21 mile TT with 2 timed sections (7 mile section right out of the trailer chute + 2 miles all out between 17-19.   This weekend is 2 weeks before IM70.3 Florida but I'm also looking beyond to IM Norway 1 July.   Which to do?

  •  I vote that you go for the volume boost. The only exception would be if you’ve been hitting higher intensity bike workouts lately and you feel confident that you can put up some great numbers. Another words, I think it’s better to reach for the volume with regards to July then it is to force a TT session that you’re not 100% confident.

    The only exception to that exception would be if the TT sounds like a crap ton of fun and you don’t want to miss out.
