New Tri Bike

I just purchased a Cervelo P3 and am in love with it! I had my first trainer ride on said P3 yesterday; the shop mechanic said I may notice the chain to be tighter when I first ride and the chain may loosen as time goes on. I noted yesterday my watts were significantly lower but my effort was the same if not greater then riding my old bike. Is there a break in period or should I expect different watts on different bikes or are the watts lower because the chain may be tighter?  I must note that my previous bike was a road bike. Thanks for all of your input.

  • Yay for the new bike! My first TRI bike was a P3 and I loved it as well.

There is always a difference in wattages you transition to a new bike. And more often than not transitioning to a triathlon bike does show of adduction and Watts simply because of the different position. Usually this is overcome by the fact that you are so Aero and therefore faster even at lower Watts. I would give it about two weeks to see where the whites are so you can truly trust it.

Right now your focus should be on making sure that you’re comfortable and then you can spend some serious time ago zero bars. Can’t wait to see a picture!
  • Thank you :) As you can imagine a 25 watt drop is huge when everyone says you should be faster. Patience I know thank goodness I have time.
