February Outseason - Week #10 - Test
Welcome to our second test week.
By now, we should be feeling stronger. Hopefully, the few days of rest this week will clear the lactic acid from of our legs.
This week is spring break for my two high school-aged boys. Therefore, I am juggling working remotely and doing college tours. On Sunday/Monday, we were in Boston.
On Tuesday, I did my second FTP test. Sadly, there was no improvement. I gave it my all, but I will have to view this one as a consolidation of the gains from my previous test. I got my HR up to 169, which is a high HR for me on the bike. I estimate that my maximum theoretical HR is 181. So this HR level was an indication that I didn't have much left in the tank. For my next test, I think I will try to get some more rest beforehand and focus on nutrition the day before. Despite the lack of a gain, it was an intense workout...
Today, I took my first 5k run test since last September, which was a few months before my meniscus surgery. I am happy to report, that I ran a 7:42, which was faster than my post-IMLP pace of 7:53. Last year, I got down to a 7:30 pace, so I have some work to get back to where I was. However, I am pretty stoked that my running form is returning.
From here, I am heading to Chicago to look at colleges. Hopefully, I can squeeze in a long run while I am there, and then a long spin when I get home on Sunday. Otherwise, I am viewing this as a rest week and will start another 4-week build cycle next Monday.
Let us know if you test this week and how you do.
Good luck!
