Infinit Custom Run Mix

Not sure if this is more of an equipment question or nutrition, so I apologize in advance if posting in the wrong place...After struggling a bit with GE at Oceanside, I went with custom run and bike drink mixes from Infinit. I have been using the off-the-shelf Infinit blends in training for a long time, so I feel pretty comfortable with using them for my IM. I was planning to carry two concentrated flasks in a Fuelbelt Helium and mix a shot with water at aid stations, swapping them out for new ones at RSN. (I am slow so I expect to be out on the course 5+) Anyone have experience doing it this way?

@Scott Schneider Nothing wrong with using concentrated flasks my concern is how close you are to your IM, make good use of any long sessions you have left to test this out, particularly this Sunday and the last race rehearsal.  Given you have used infinit with good results that makes me feel better it's just making sure you have the amounts you are taking (both infinit and water) in on the run set out to meet your needs.

Not sure if you've been to the wiki and see the nutrition information

I forgot to mention always train with what you are going to use on course.  I assume you were using Infinit in training then went to Oceanside and used GE?  If so it could be the product not liking your stomach or the amount you were taking in.

  • @scottschneider if you go with the concentrated flask be diligent about hydrating with water. The fuel will not be absorbed if your gut is dehydrated. Also, muscular athletes run the chance of becoming dehydrated quicker so your bike fuel is important to nail down. The goal is to keep blood volume up. Double check the salt content of your fuel. You mostly likely should be around 800 mg/hour.  This will set you up for the run.
  • @Scottscneider" - Yes to what @Sheila Leard said.  I tried the concentrated run/swim mix in training and would have a 10 minute pain in kidneys (or liver or some organ....).  I could run through it, but I think I needed to wash it down more.  For this reason, I opted to not use this on the run.  Also, chances are very likely that my gut was dehydrated.
  • Thanks for the feedback. I tested the flasks out on a couple practice runs, and don't think it will work. I have a two-bottle setup and it doesn't hold enough servings. I am going to have to go back to carrying one full bottle and some sandwich bags with the powder. Not ideal but better than winging it at aid stations.
