Guess our 40kTT times!
Inspired by Matt Ancona and Rich...
Guess the time for my 40k (24.8 mile) TT this Sunday at 7 a.m. and also Nemo's 26.7 miles TT this Saturday.
Contest #1: Guess Nemo's time.
Contest #2: Guess my time
*note: this will be my first power test, never done a TT before, iron level is lower than April so have been tired the last week and I am 12 weeks away from WI.. been doing 8 weeks of "hard" training!!
Nemo, just did a HIM, has done TTs and power tests before and is also 12 weeks away from IMWI.
nope I don't have a fancy excel spreadsheet to put your names in... but the winner of each contest shall receive an undetermined thank you!! if Mike Hedman wins then a can of Spam. If Steve Ford wins then some hot dogs.... if Kris Frazier wins then some OPI nailpolish! and if Linda wins a new tube of lipstick!! Trent, Coach Patrick, Bob, Suzanne et.al, shall receive a box of bandaids! Gina would get a new song for her Ipod and etc. to the rest of y'all.

One quick correction. Upon registering I realized my TT is a little longer than 40K. It will be 27.7 miles (OH....MY....GOD!). So, please place your bets accordingly!
(Marianne- can you edit your original post just to be sure folks see this change? Wouldn't want anyone to guess my time based on the wrong distance).
For Nemo 1:21:32
For Marianne 1:14:52
Will they be beef or pork dogs?
Nemo 1:24:50
Marianne: 1:22:50
Oh, what fun! I have no idea what your courses are like, but love the challenge!
A couple of tosses at the dartboard on my garage wall provided the following times:
1. 1:27:93
2. 1:20.43
Quick update to those of you submitting your bets. I just received an email from the race director. Apparently after pre-riding the course today he discovered one of the roads has been milled and is covered in sand and gravel for paving. So the course has been changed to avoid that road which shortens the course by exactly 1 mile. So the race will be 26.7 miles. (inside I'm smiling- one less mile!!!)
Update your times if you think necessary.
ha ha ha. okay I don't have a wheel cover but do have aero helmet. at 8 p.m. tonight it was still 95 degrees!! and I don't have EN stickers. I know, horrible. yes Nemo you gotta get pics and yes I will too. You will probably want to see the Galloway truck stop too! that is the parking area for the start!! or the guy selling watermelons on the corner of the street out of his pick up truck? now.. what do we wanna write on our forearms??? Ironmans I write "patience and discipline" but was thinking for the 40k, "lean and mean".... the course is flat, out and back, one way out a U turn and back on in, ridges in the road, potholes and little shade and wide out on rural roads with corn fields.
if Beth wins gotta be something foodie.. Al wins, gotta be something outdoorsy, Matt? could be new parenting book, smile. m
1:24.62
I fully expect both of you to SMASH my predictions out of sheer anger that I would so underestimate your speed!
The Time Trial I'm doing this weekend is actually a Team Time Trial- but I worked it out with the Race Director so that I could do it solo (no prize money for me- ha ha ha- but I still get to do the course and get timed). Super cool of him to be so accommodating. Well, anyway, one of the local guys put out a note to the club today looking for a partner for the TTT and, dang it, someone suggested ME!!! EEEEEEEK! I said "OK, as long as the RD says we can switch my registration AND provided you let me do my share of pulling" and wouldn't ya know it- the RD was real accommodating again!
Soooooo- it's still gonna be 26.7 miles of all out hell ('cause even just sucking this guys wheel for the whole course would toast me- the best rest I get might be when I'm pulling!) but I have no idea what that does to the time predictions. So I think I'm out on the guess our times thing- unless you all want to still play along- in which case, what the heck! I'm already so far out of my comfort zone right now I'm in another hemisphere!
1:11:12
Nemo: 1:18:03
Mariane: 109:58
Neems--1:18:54
m--1:19:08
My time was 1:14 and something (I don't remember the something, but Al is closest whatever it was. Thanks so much everyone for playing in Marianne's challenge. The Team TT was a lot of fun, and knowing I had this little challenge too really helped me. So Al, please PM me your address so I can send you a nice little thank you gift!
My time? 1:18:53.. 18.8 mph. so I thought it was Todd but I think it was Linda??? Todd was 50" too fast and yes I was shooting for that! but Linda was 15" too slow, but she was still closer.
so there were about 70ish people, which included a handful of juniors and about 6 women that I can recall. a vacant parking lot, none too scenic set the stage for some fancy wheels and guys in spandex.!! like I told somebody, I think us gals were the carrots and they shoulda paid our entrance fee! anyways.. they had trainers and fancy wheels and were working furiously at warming up. I pull in casually and see a tri guy of mine, owns the local running store and yell out a big Hello and then also my pal Heather is there too!
we laugh and then get on our bikes and I say "let's hit the road!".. we warmed up slowly and chatted and then on the way back, did some sprints like sign to sign, or sign to tree that sorta thing! and with it being 80 degs at just 5:30 a.m. it didn't take long to get physically warm! our start time was 7:03 a.m. and I was #7 and Heather #9. off we go in 30" increments and somebody held my bike, a first for me.
I shot off like a rubber band! but was cautioned not to take it out too fast. I had preridden the course and knew once I got to the 10k mark to start to pick it up. Kerplunk went the road with potholes and ridges but if you stayed right next to the white line not so bad.
for some reason my old saddle was killing me in the haunches! that part where your leg joins your glute! felt like I was on a 2x4! ouch, and I just ridden a century 2 weeks before. my saddle search continues with a vengeance now. anyways, tough out the uncomfortable saddle! Tues. doc said I still had low iron so I have been fatigued a bit more but popping 2 iron pills per day! and sleeping pretty good to include last night.
Open road with guyz in disc wheels whooshing by me but my new power tap was registering and I stuck to my race strategy. I hit the turn around and made a sharp U turn in the road and was surprised to be hit with a strong head wind! that was not there on the warm up! at this point, I tried counting 1 - 10 and repeating, tried relaxing! tried bible verses!, prayer, counting again, more prayer and generally counting down the minutes as it seemed like it took me about 3' per mile. I had Grace nine years ago today so knew the pain of labor and breathing thru it.. so just bore down! About mile 20, I thought of the EN chicas here and knew I better grimace with pain a bit more!! Here it got spiritual! cuz with everything I had and help from God, I continued the next 4.8 miles! it wasn't about the power test anymore, the wind was great and there was only one way it was gonna stop and that was for me to reach the finish line. I was the only woman out there over age 45. but that didn't even occur to me, it was me, my bike and the road....
I knew where the endspurt was, "once I got to the shade trees"... and with my head ducked down low and body screaming.... I finished my first TT! I rode straight to my car, sweat all over me, threw my bike in, got my visor on, put my socks and run shoes on, got some water and trotted off for a brick run of 3 miles! On a road edged with corn fields and no shade in sight..... I noted to myself, that with the slow run pace initially, it didn't hurt so bad! and I could ease into it a bit better. By mile 2, it felt normal and I was able to get into a groove before reaching the parking lot. There huddled by a car, were the guyz looking at their times. I hadn't missed anything! I was surrounded by guys that had gone 54', 1:04', 1:19 and in between.. they asked me how did I do?? I said "good, it was my first one!"....
so this is to encourage you to try out a TT in your area. perfect roadie race for the triathlete cuz there is no drafting and you can get some good data in race environment!! it is just an olympic without the swim beforehand!!
My power, not sure how to do this! but it is every mile. my Garmin software avg was 109 and max was 240.
Way to nail it, m! Nice, nice work!!!!
Price is Right rules have me the winner. Closest without going over. Who called it? Who called it?
Marianne, download poweragent for mac and the Garmin files can be imported. It will give you NP, IF, TSS metrics. Others will advocate WKO but in the meantime it will put your power data into a more usable format. I dump my files from my Edge 500 into Poweragent but the 310 XT will be same basic principle.
Lynne
M - If you want the WKO info, feel free to export the workout from your garmin software and email the file to me. I can put it in WKO for you and share the number.
woo hoo!!! awesome job Nemo and Marianne!!! I musta been asleep at the wheel to not get in on the action and throw some times in the hat. Oh well... I've never done a real TT myself so I can't imagine I would have been in contention anyway! So proud of you both!
"feel free to export the workout from your garmin software and email the file to me"
uhh. 1. what is your email (ironmarianne@gmail.com is mine and you can email me there if you like)
2. how to export the workout?
I see "share", Embed, Export and then under Export = tcx file, gpx file or kml file.
to my knowledge I have never exported a file!
3. Somebody mentioned Poweragent, would that be the 7.4?
