wetsuit fit

basic question here... I just put on my tri-wetsuit for the first time and noted a few things....very difficult to put on- took about 7 minutes feels overall mildly constrictive, slightly choking at the neck line and when i swing my arms as if swimming I feel slight recoil.... me: 6'4, 215lbs, its an Aerious II wetsuit by HUUB.  Just wondering if these suits typically stretch a little etc... or kinda what to expect (first wetsuit)... its Large size.
thoughts appreciated

  • Sounds about right. It will be a bit tight when new and dry. When wet it should loosen up some. To help the neckline feel less restrictive, have someone help you "tuck" your shoulders in and zip it up.
  • Things I do to make putting a wetsuit on "easier":
    • Wear socks on my feet when putting legs in, and on my hands when putting arms in
    • Turn the legs almost completely inside out, leaving about 4" tucked in @ the bottom. Slip my socked feet in, and grab about 4-8" at a time, one leg at a time, and pull the suit up the leg, so it returns right side out as it goes up.
    • When the suit is at my hips, I reach behind down to the junction between legs and body of suit, grab, and yank up to make sure it gets to my crotch, before starting to put the ams in.
    • Pay particular attention to getting the arms pulled all the way up to the arm pits, by raising my arm, and pulling down on the arms between elbows and shoulders.
    • Any time I'm grabbing the smooth outer surface, I make sure my nails don't dig into the material, to prevent crescent-shaped tears.
    • Body glide or similar lube around the sides of the neck helps prevent the neckline from rubbing ski raw there. Also some people need lube in other hot spots. YMMV
    • It usually takes me 5-10 minutes to put a full suit on. My two piece De Soto is easier, and quicker to don. But the same principles apply.
Suit should not lose its stretch with normal use.
