Sickness, workout switcharoo and Taper adjustment

About to start my taper week leading up to 70.3 Madison on Monday.  Saturday (tomorrow) is a full race rehearsal (swim/bike/run) and @Coach Patrick suggested to take Sunday before the race (this Sunday) totally off to aggressively start the taper.  I am sick as a dog today - let's just say, lots of bathroom time.  Wondering if I should take tomorrow off and do the Race Rehersal on Sunday?  Is that too much too close to race day as I haven't been ramping down yet for this race?  It's not my A Race (Boulder in August), but would like to be competitive.

  • @Leslie Sedlak If you are spending lots of time in the bathroom I'd make sure you are recovered fairly well before doing a race rehearsal.  Dehydration could also be an issue for the RR.  Seeing as it's not an A race and depending upon your current fitness you can mostly train through a 1/2 so Sunday could work.  My bigger concern would be to not to get sicker and totally torpedo the race trying to get in one more workout.

  • @Gordon Cherwoniak  All sage advice.  Feeling much better today and weather is on and off thunderstorms all day.  Trying to decide if I just do an indoor training (good in case I start to feel too fatigued and want to call it a day) and take tomorrow of as suggested.   Or just do the race rehearsal tomorrow and start my taper on Monday and consider the hay already in the barn.
  • @Leslie Sedlak Answering this kind of late in the day. I wold take your own advice and " consider the hay already in the barn". This race rehearsal is more confirm your numbers & feeding plan than to gain any fitness. Reading your plan tells me you already have that dialed in.
  • @MarkStahlkopf  Thanks for the feedback.  Workout ended up interesting to say the least.  I decided to try to make it happen early afternoon.  went to pool (called ahead to confirm lap time was available as I usually go weekdays at 0500) And there was a rope across the pool splitting in half, short ways.  The lifeguard told me no big deal, I just have to duck under the rope each length........that wasn't happening for 1.2 miles.  So I went back home and as I was driving the rain just kept coming.  So I got home, hopped on the trainer, kicked out 2 hours in zone 2-3 - held awesome power and steady, then ran outside in a bit of rain for 25 minutes and was faster than expected.  I probably should have gone slower - but it felt too good.  Taking today off and on to schedule EN Minimalist HIM Taper week.  This time next week, I'll be celebrating!!!
