Coach Notes

Marcin, I see you have loaded up a bunch of training plans, including the Get Fast Plan for now. With your two olympic races happening shortly, I think you are better served using our Short Course plan as listed ^above^.

Essentially to taper this week, then to peak again headed into the Superleague race.

If you prefer to use a different plan, that's okay, just let me know!

In the meantime...please let me know what you are focusing on in particular (See below).

Comments

  • Thanks Coach for the first look at my season plan.

As I am joining EN very close (i.e. 7 days) to my A race, I know that giving advice at this time is different than discussing things 6-9 months prior :)

please find below answers to your questions and more background info on me.

    • What will make you consider 2018 a success?
Going sub 2:20 in the Olympic distance triathlon on June 10th or July 1st. If I won't make it on July 1st, I'll recover a little and rebuild for a late-season local 1/4 Ironman race on September 4th. 1/4 IM races are something very specific to Poland   -it's a 950m swim, 45k bike and 10,5k run.

    • What's your biggest limiter right now?
    My run, without a doubt.

    1. I have a 4 w/kg road FTP and plan to go 3,5 w/kg during the Olympic on the TT bike this month, so that's decent by my standards. At the very least I would love to keep this bike fitness as my baseline in this season.
    2. My swimming has progresessed a little since last year with consistent 2 swims a week with Tower26 from December to March and some missed sessions in April and May.I can realistically expect a 26-27 minutes 1500m wetsuit swim. Shaving further 2-3 minutes more would require too much of a time commitment that I just don't have (each swimming pool session takes 2,5 - 3h when you include the commute)
    3. With the run, my 10k is stuck at around 43-44 minutes. and I don't keep a consistent mileage. I didn't know how to combine frequent running with S and B training - that's what I wanted to learn from joining EN

    • I see you have loaded up a bunch of training plans, including the Get Fast Plan for now. With your two olympic races happening shortly, I think you are better served using our Short Course
Ok, I will use the Short Course plan to prepare for Superleague on July 1st.
The reason I have loaded a bunch of plans  was  to play with scenarios for completing this season and then transition to Outseason for 2019.
I plan to end the tri season on September 4th. I'll have some C-races mid-July and end of July. What would you recommend - prepare for 09/04 tri with the Short Course plan, or just do the Get Fast plan in July/August just to mix things up a bit?

  • @Marcin Woźniak - thanks for the quick reply. A week until the race is pretty hard to help with, but you can check out the Short Course Race Guidance section to see if there are any tidbits!

I am 100% okay with you doing your own thing to prepare; we encourage it!!! That said, I'm here to help as needed. I think the GetFast plan would be a nice change. But let's see how this race goes (please capture power/HR/etc) so we can review the stats!

    Happy tapering!!!

    @Coach Patrick
I am glad to report that I did get under 2h20m in my Oly yesterday. I used the taper week from the shourt course plan. The RR is here https://endurancenation.vanillacommunities.com/discussion/24826/marcin-wozniak-5150-warsaw-oly-report/p1?new=1

Any suggestions what plan to use now, considering I want to gradually put the focus more on the run while keeping racing throughout the summer?  (next races are 1st of July, 14th of July, 28th of July and then probably 2nd of September)
  • Fantastic! Nothing like hitting your goals in June. Let me think over your next steps and I will be back in touch.
  • @Coach Patrick thanks! any follow up on the next steps?
  • Sorry for the delayed reply, I just realized that your next three races are actually quite soon! I recommend that we continue your focus on race preparation. That will allow you to carry the fitness you’ve gotten through the rest of July in the next three races. Once we hit August we can make a transition, and  do weeks 3, 4 and five of the bike focus plan. Then you can do the final two weeks of the short course plan into your September race. This will give you enough time to stay sharp for July and enough of a change in August to prepare for that last big event

So right now you could reload the short course plan to end on that final July race weekend and we can go from there.

Let me know what you think! ~ Coach P

I read you response and applied it immediately, just responding late now. Thanks for the guidance. The plan works well so far, I've kept the fitness and finish 1/4 IM race in 2:17 last Sunday!
  • EXCELLENT!!!  B)

Thank you so much for the update. Let me know when you are ready for the next step.
  • @Marcin Woźniak

Welcome to your THIRD MONTH  inside Endurance Nation!

This month we focus on helping you become more independent as part of your growth as a Self-Coached Athlete.  Whether you are planning your season, preparing to race or transitioning to a new endurance challenge...Team Endurance Nation is ready to help!

If you haven’t done so already, please set up your Month Three Coach Call here.

    ** Training Focus **

We consider anytime in your season when you are more than 12 weeks away from your event to be a training focus. There are different phases of training (OutSeason®, General Prep, Sport Specific), but they are fall under the same umbrella.

Now that you are through your first two months of Endurance Nation, You have learned a few key “rules” of how we play the game, and you are ready to take charge of your experience.

    Training Lesson Recap:

    • No single workout is more important than your health, or your season goal.

    • Prioritize your “key” workouts each week, then fill the rest of your space.

    • We can always fix over rested. We can’t fix broken, exhausted or sick.

    • Have a specific goal for each training block - what is the desired end state?

    Taking Charge:

    • You should be comfortable moving your own workouts around at this point.

    • You can change plan ability levels as needed to keep yourself on track.

    • You can use the Test Week at any time to confirm a fitness change.

    • If you want to take a different path that we suggest...do it and keep us posted!

    ** Racing Focus **

Once you are within the final 12 week window to your event, it’s time to really focus. From key workouts to nutrition to logistics, there’s a great deal to cover. There’s a fine line between a great day and a day where you want a total do-over.

Key components of your final push should include:

    • Simulation Workouts to replicate the mental, physical and nutritional scenario you expect on race day.

    • A tried and true nutrition plan for your event; this is your last chance to lock it in!

    • Draft and review of a Race Plan to make sure you are 100% ready to take this on.

    • Optional rest as needed, and a defined taper in the last two to three weeks as necessary.

    • 13 Weeks out from your race you should be getting a race preparation email and an invitation to GroupMe - if you haven’t gotten that yet - let us know!

    ** Additional Support **

In addition to The Forums and other Team-related support, you still have the chance to connect with Coach Patrick across your first year. Right now it’s time for your three month call with Coach Patrick; and you can book it here.

Tip: Find all your other call windows across your first year, please visit the EN Staff page.

Be sure to check out our Three Year Plan in Resources / Wiki so you can see how we recommend improving from season to season.

    Coach Phone Consults

If you are looking for support above and beyond the traditional Endurance Nation experience, you can book a consult with Coach Patrick. These are billed at $100/hour and Can be on almost any training or racing topic. Please click here to learn more / get started.

Congratulations for moving forward with you training as you build to your race goals. We can’t wait to see what you are capable of this season!
