Leadville MTB 2018
Looking to connect with others who are doing Leadville MTB race or have done the race in years past? I know a couple of folks @Gabe Peterson @Scott Dinhofer who are experienced with this event but wanted to see if anyone else would like to chat either about their experiences or if your a first timer like me some good to knows. For example, Leadville has a podcast that I have been listening to that is FANTASTIC! Here is the Link:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/leadville-the-100-mile-mountain-bike-race-podcast/id1387347630?mt=2
It is going through the different sections of the course each episode and some of the what to do and not to do’s. Gear talk, nutrition talk, and best statagies on some sections to think about.
Also, Leadville MTB has a facebook page(Leadville 100 MTB Participants) where people are asking a lot of great questions and getting a lot of great comments.
EN does a great job of prescribing pace strategies for biking and running. Does anyone know of a good pace stratagy for this race? I generally follow my heart rate but I have heard at elevation your HR is different.....is this true? Then how do I try to achieve my best race without pushing myself to hard but getting the best time I can? This is the question we all ask but this race is different because of the altitude.
Looking forward to hearing from anyone who has insights.
Cheers

Climbing is about being able to get into a tempo and climb all the way up. Many a fool drop a foot and then hundreds behind them get stuck walking the last 2 miles up to Columbine. Assuming you've qualified and are in the top half of the group, you should avoid this and be able to pedal through.
LV is a VERY long day in the saddle. having a solid nutrition plan and executing it are key. if you are at 4.5 hrs or close at the Columbine you are going to have to be disciplined in the back half to get that big buckle, but based on your time in your Minnesota event, this should be a doable item..
use the charts, use your on course intel gained in a few weeks to create reasonable times for a few places on the course. Getting to the road section at X, or the bottom of powerline, etc.. ahead of schedule will really help your mental build up on race day..
you've got this and are going to be incredibly prepared from your preview trip out.
