In-between races - training plan choices

Just finished 70.3 Boulder last Saturday.  So had a nice easy taper week.  race.  no official training this last week other than walking and hiking two days.  Planned to do an Olympic 25 August (in two weeks), thinking I would have all this fitness from HIM training, but feeling sluggish and need some structure.  The Olympic is pricey, but will be nice and competitive and I'm looking to force myself out of my race comfort zone.

Next official 'A' race is the local 10 mile where I am trying to beat my husband's best 10 mile time (when he was 15 years younger - but it's the only remaining record he holds in the house) is second week of October.

How to approach the next two weeks before the Olympic?

  • @Leslie Sedlak My two ¢: There are two plans called "Post HalfIron Transition" and "Post Ironman Transition" (2 & 4 weeks respectively). Check those out. Something half way between them should get you rolling up to speed again, but help you avoid the risk of doing too much, too soon. For me, the riskiest time for injury has always been in the time frame 7-14 days after an A race. You want to keep the joints lubricated, the neuromuscular memory operative, and your brain engaged, but not try anything too long or too hard in the two weeks post HIM. The third week, check out the final taper week from the Short Course plans. That should provide a little kick start to get you ready to race...
  • @Leslie Sedlak Not much to add about the Olympic.  All that really matters in my mind is the 10 mile record.
  • @Gordon Cherwoniak  I am definitely feeling that sentiment.  Got back Sunday from vacation and have worked 12-13 hour days straight away since Monday.  Barely got a run in on Monday and hoped on the trainer last night during the last hour of work (everyone is on travel but me, so tied into a conference room....all.....damn.....day)  Thinking I'll save the $100, the uber early am for my family, and focus on smashing the 10 mile record (I'll have to pull off a 7:45 min/mile - his race was 100% downhill....) so I'll need some speed and recovery time :)

@Al Truscott  loaded up the transition for some guidance and doing what I can - we'll see how I feel Monday :)

I can sign up until the night before the race - so we'll see :)

    Thanks all!
