2010 Twin Lakes Triathlon Race Report - 1st Overall
Oh the ups and downs of triathlon training and racing. Last week I was bummed about my performance at the High Cliff Half. Then I went on to have an awesome week of training with a new FTP in the aerobars (highest ever) and a few great runs. Then yesterday I blew up on my ride and felt like crap going into a the race this morning.
I owe a big thank you to everyone that gave provided positive comments and great advice!!! Once again thank you Team EN!
Well going in with low expectations worked out pretty well!!! I came out of the swim a minute ahead of what I hoped I could swim and then felt awesome on the the bike.
Swim 9:54 for 700m - 1:24/100M (A big PR thanks to perfect conditions and a ton of drill work recently)
T1 0:56
Bike 33:32 for 14.5 miles - 26 MPH!!!
T2 0:44
Run 26:40 for 4.5 miles - 5:55 min/mil
Total 1:11:43 - 1st Overall!!!

Now, that's more like it. Way to go, Matt. You're building quite a resume. Congrats!
Dave
I would have a hard time being first overall in a one person race
That is the way to crush it, very inspiring.
Well I guess you were really FOP this time huh? And to think we all knew you when you were only really really fast
2010 Goals: Have fun and enjoy Kona: Guess that first part is working out well!
@Jim - see you have the bike of choice for the long-legged athlete! Love my Slice!
@David - That's exactly why I got the Slice. I was between that, the Trek TTX and the Scott Plasma. I'm extremely happy with my decision.
Congratulations Matt= well deserved!
Thank You Everyone!
Sorry for the recent over abundance of race reports and I hope I didn't bore you but I wanted to share my experiences and the ups and downs with the team.
I again could not sleep last night as I was replaying the entire race in my mind. There were definitely a few minor things I could have done better to still improve but by far the biggest thing I realized is that I didn't get worked up or worried about anything during the race. P's saying that smooth is fast sure paid off for me as I just went with it when I got cut off more than once, my helmet was knocked off my bike, and someones tri bag strap was wrapped around my pedal/show in T1.
@ChrisG - yes I now consider myself FOP at least at the local/regional level. I've had my fun at the local races this year and now I need to go get my assed kicked in Kona so I am motivated to get even stronger so someday I can be FOP at the national/world level
@Trent - i'm just working my butt off to stay in front of guys like you, Jim H and others that keep making big gains.
I ran into a friend at checkin/setup and we all got talking so I never got down to find the EN folks pre-race. I did run into Jim and Mike B ( and Vicky) after the race but missed you Theresa and Abigail.
Congrats on a great race and thanks for suggesting this one to the team back in April. It was really fun.
You've had a nice campaign of events over the last month and personally I appreciate all your race reports ( as well as those of everyone else) since we all learn so much from them
