Need a Hard Shell Bike Case - what do you recommend?

Looking for advice and thoughts on best bike bags.  I currently have an EVOC soft case that has worked well for last 5+ years but will be flying Hawaiian airlines soon and they don't allow soft bags anymore so I'm in the market for a hard case.

In doing some research have found the THULE Round Trip travel case to be at a good price point and has an integrated work stand versus other offerings  (i.e., SCICON).  Wondering if anyone in the forums have any experience with the THULE hard case and/or another hard case model that has worked well.

Key considerations in my choice (in rank order):

  1. Durability
  2. Limited amount needed to break down bicycle  (i.e., EVOC only requires me to remove pedals, seat & aero bars)
  3. Price

Thanks!

Ross

  • Ross, if it helps, the "Hawaiian soft bags" policy will be in abeyance this October.   But if that doesn't line up with your travel, the SCICON TSA seems to be a leader in many of the reviews/comparisons.

Also, there is a EN discount (I think ) - see the Sponsor Discounts thread.

It's a moot point if they set aside the policy for October, but I have the Thule Roundtrip Pro XT which is the semi-soft side variant of the above. I say "semi" because my bag has a hard shell bottom and there are plastic panels that slide in both sides of the bag giving it a rigid surface. The work stand is friggin ingenious and makes assembling and disassembling the bike a breeze.
