Anyone using Lake, Bont, or Shimano RC7 wide cycling shoes?
I've come to accept that sleek, slender sexy bike shoes aren't doing me any favours. I have a bunion that is big enough to land a Colony, so all signs* point to getting a wide shoe.
Research has pointed me to the Lake 301 or CX1 carbon, Shimano RC7 or Bont Blitz - shortlisted mainly because they seem to have the sizing necessary, are lightweight, and don't have all kinds of dials, straps and craps hanging off them.
Does anyone in EN have experience with any of these?
*foot numbness, plus $1300 spent this year alone buying various new shoes that don't fit

Doesn't help you now, but why not get bunion surgery after the season this year? For the first 8 years of my tri career, I had a giant bunion on one foot, and my fastest IM marathon was 4:22, which came Oct 2006; I had surgery Nov 2006, and for the next seven years, all of my IM marathon times were between 4:01 and 4:15, with no increase in training, HR, or average training speed. I've always thought the surgery had at least *something* to do with that, by improving my alignment and allowing a longer stride with no increase in effort.
BTW, 12 years on, the bunion has not returned.
Dave I’m on my second pair of these. The first pair were left on my pedals in KONA, while I lay in the grass near the ABC store at the King K hotel, watching my world spinning around, Heather picked up my bike with instructions to unclip shoes and leave in KONA, ya can only race and pee in your shoes so many times. Anyway I love them and will buy a third pair when needed.
Hi @Dave Tallo , I have the same as @tim cronk , love them & will buy another pair when the time comes. I used to have Shimano TR60's (not wide) but they gave me corns so went with the lakes & havn't looked back. I have tried some shimano wide fit road shoes but still found them to be too narrow.
