How to get your Vaporflys on Thursday

  • And as @Mike Westover announced on the home page and @Steve boer announced in EN Group Me, Nike now has Vaporfly in many sizes in a new color (blue)! :)

  • Why are the $100 off a new model? This sounds sketchy.

  • Those VaporFlys seem to be vaporware...I couldn't find them on the site, much less put them in a cart.

  • They sold out within hours. I have ordered successfully from JackRabbit before, and received an order confirmation this morning, so it does look like it was legit. They still have deep discounts going on other Nike models (Air Zoom Structure 22, Vomero 14, Pegasus 35, Epic React Flyknit, Odyssey React Flyknit) and some other brands.

  • The React like a cheaper Vaporfly ? Good price.

  • @Al Truscott I bought a pair of the VF NEXT from that sale yesterday. I've also received an email that they have shipped already, so as of now, I'm assuming it was real...

  • given how much my feet hurt in the VFs, I am not going to chase these... Love to hear reports or read an good ones people have found..

  • VaporFlys hurt me too, so I hacked them. The way the sole cuts under the arch with zero support didn't work for me at all. Additionally, I need a little build up under my first metatarsal to help things work right.

I ripped the rigid plastic part off a pair of superfeet, attacked it with my dremel and a file to make smaller/lighter and shaped for VaporFlys, but leaving the support where needed. Covered with 1mm EVA (which double layered to build up the needed areas), moulded with a heat gun and glued to the rigid plastic, Then pulled the sock liner out of the VaporFlys and replaced with my "custom orthotic," which I glued in place.

Took a couple hours... but the VaporFl;ys feel awesome now.

  • Another Vaporfly deal, this time from Eastbay. NEXT% is $200 with the code TAKE50; men's sizes 4.5 and 10-13 are in stock. And if you are a men's size 4.5 or 5.0, you can get the prior 4% Flyknit version (which has some advantages for fast transitions) for $125, half off the original price.

    thanks.

    ordered.

how will i find the next% compared to the 4% ?

i went from 13 to 12.5. -------- bit too much room in my 4%.

  • @robin sarner I haven't run in the NEXT% yet. I ordered a pair in an earlier sale, but I sized down and they were too small. With socks I am a 10.5 in the original 4%, 11 in the Flyknit, and I think 11 in the NEXT%.

Laces on the NEXT% are at an angle which felt strange when I put them on, but it doesn't see to be an issue in reviews. The upper and sole are supposedly better than previous versions in wet conditions which is good for us.

  • @Mike Westover hopefully downsizing was ok. will see.

  • i have 4%. just got next%.

went from 13 to 12.5. seems good. still plenty of toe room.

though what i got was not flyknit. i assumed the next% would be flyknit. instead, it is like a plastic upper. are there different versions of next% ?

  • I also just received my Next% yesteray, and was also surprised to see the upper made out of that plastic material. No worries though - free speed is free speed ;-)

  • @robin sarner @John Katsoudas yes, the upper is a new material inspired by sailcloth, that is supposed to be more waterproof and breathable. The sole also gets more traction, and it is supposedly a little faster than the Flyknit.

Overall the NEXT% looks like an improvement as a pure running shoe, and for IM. I still like the previous Flyknit version for shorter tris, since the one-piece upper and heel structure are helpful for getting them on quickly.

  • question on the VFs - has anyone who has run in these alot found that they hurt your forefoot? I have found the pain in the ball of my foot to be excruciating... to the point, that it probably negates any advantage I'd get from the VF...

that said, if you did experience this, did you also experience it in the Next%?

  • @scott dinhofer maybe it is the drop? The earlier VF had an 11 mm heel to toe drop, which is pretty high. The NEXT% has an 8 mm drop so might be a little better (though 8 mm is still pretty high for a racing shoe).
