Hudson Mohawk Road Runner 1/2 Marathon
Arghh! I thought I had the perfect day to achieve my goal of </=2 hours for a 1/2 marathon race, but it just wasn’t there. I am going back to the drawing board and hope to achieve my over all goal, which is to break two hours before turning 51 in 11 months from now. :-)
Over the past couple of months, I had my sweat tested by Core Diet, and I have even enlisted the help of Inside Tracker to fine tune my diet. I realize these are long term solutions, but I believe they are both starting to have an impact and I felt the difference during my run. The EN plan was spot on, as usual, and, along with feedback from Coach and members, also helped to ensure a great run.
It was warm for an early October morning, but my pace was good. I thought I had it planned out, but I did not achieve my goal so something did not come together as planned. Once I upload my data, I plan to see where things went wrong.
I started out strong and had a solid pace. I checked my Garmin as I approached the 2 hour mark and noticed that I was at mile 11.5. I knew I could not achieve my goal, so I dialed it back and enjoyed the last couple of miles.
I’ll be back to the drawing board in a couple of days to start training for my next half. I’m thinking about attempting one more before the end of the year or in the spring.

Hi George, to be able to complete a half marathon is amazing in itself and something many people dream of being able to do. Keep chipping away at and you will achieve your goal of sub 2 hours. As the Japanese proverb says "Fall seven times and stand up eight".
@George Penn Sorry to hear you fell short of your goal. I was on your shoes not long ago. I had completed over 10 halfs without breaking the 2hr mark. I was as close as 2:02 but still not there.
Here is what worked for me:
Since joining EN two years ago I have broken the 2 hour mark every time I run a half after OS. This has also translated into better times at the 70.3 distance.
Talk to @Coach Patrick about Run durability in December-January, then Feb OS and you will be killing it in April. I’m sure you are just months away from breaking 2.
