IMFL - week 2
one week down 19 to go.
hope everyone had a great weekend ... I was inspired by the awesome job EN folks (and some DC Tri club friends) did at CDA yesterday... today is a day off for me (I went back to do the last few weeks of OS) which is nice - I'll probably swim later (coaches told me OS for a few weeks was okay as long as I swim 1-2x per week). The weekend was crazy, crazy hot and humid again. Ugh. I rode my drainer (4x5x30/30s) for 75 minutes 100 degrees without factoring in humidity and code orange air quality... not thrilled to be inside but at least I had a soccer game to watch and then attempted a 20 min HMP pace run... close but not quite (15" at closer to MP). For my run I got up early but still darn hot and had trouble hitting my zones (2x1 at Z4, remainder Z3)... so darn hot... but I tried...
I'm heading out of town for the long holiday weekend, I'll do what I can. Hopefully will be able to run and the beau told me there's a Y with a pool, so that's good. The next weekend I've got an OLY. It will be nice to do a "C" race just for fun.... then one more OS week before jumping into week 5 of IM training. I've got another "C" OLY and an "A-/B+" HIM coming up around the 12 week mark... so one of these days I need to start riding hills again... time is gonna fly this summer.... if only it weren't so darn hot already. Seriously, DC is breaking records every day and I think the current streak is 8 days over 90. Only June... grr....
anyway, happy training... looking forward to getting to know you all via the forum and meeting you in November!

I'm mixing it up this week, training wise, because of weather and injury issues. I did today's bike Monday, Monday's swim and a 30 minute run (almost pain-free - woo hoo!) Tuesday, and then an 1:15 swim today. We are getting thunderstorms and lots of rain from the close proximity of Hurricane Alex so swimming will be out the rest of the week.
I'm not ready to do a true big bike week yet, but I'm doing a mini version this upcoming holiday weekend; 60 miles Saturday, 50 miles Sunday and a swim, and 40 miles Monday with a run and a swim. Mentally I'm not hard core enough yet to push the distances any more than that.
Hope everyone's training is going well! Have a safe holiday!
I see you are in Alexandria. I am in Roanoke. A bit more hilly here.
I heard the race is flat as a pancake so I am struggling to find a somewhat flat course for our long rides.
Happy training
Hiya! I'm traveling for the long weekend so my schedule is just about shot... doing what I can do, though - but the volume and intensity isn't quite right. Oh well, something is better than nothing.
@Dennis - I wouldn't worry so much about training on hills, but maybe try to find a flat spot to do the RRs. It might be windy, and IMHO, hills are like headwind... either way, you'll be stronger (and a lot more engaged) for training with hills. I actually ride with a group that does some very hilly routes on the weekends... it helps me pound out the flats with a lot less effort.
