Sunday Team ride in Zwift - Cruise and Crush (AKA ABP and Sprint & KOM Jersey Chase)
It's hard to believe, but the team has been doing this ride for almost 2 years. There have been several names for the ride, but Cruise and Crush seems to explain it the best. There are a number of regulars that show up each week, but I know there are a lot of new members that may be interested. Also, the Outseasons are gearing up and this may be the perfect ride to compliment your Outseason bike.
What is this ride?
The ride is a social ride and a workout. We chat on Discord and ride at an effort of approximately 2.5 W/KG. When we approach the Sprints (12 to 30 second) or the KOM climbs (2 minute to 8 minute) the chatting stops and the hard efforts start. Depending on the course, we usually end up with 2 sprints and 2 KOMs per hour. The goal is #1 get faster each week while having fun #2) Motivate team members to win the green or polka dot jerseys.
There is a lot about the original ride including instructions and tips regarding Zwift posted here.
What if I can't hang at 2.5 W/KG?
No problem, you can adjust your weight and height in Zwift by using this calculator . Most of the regulars are "B" or 3.2 to 3.9 W.KG FTP.
Also, we regroup after every KOM and Sprint.
When is it?
The ride starts at the start banner at 8:00 7:50 EST. There is no time that works for everyone, but this is the time we have gotten the most participation. There are several West Coast regulars that start at 5:00 AM. Also, you do not need to be there when it starts. You can join at any time by using the "Ride With" function in Zwift. The ride has been lasting 2 hours lately, but people usually start staying on longer when they are in season.
Where is it?
Zwift! It depends on the course and these are always changing.
I believe Watopia Figure 8 is the best course for this for now.
If it's London, we do London Pretzel.
If its New York, we do everything bagel
If it's Innsbruck we do Insbruckring
If it's Richmond we sleep in. I don't remember it ever being Richmond on Sunday.
The course schedule is not yet available for December, so I will post when I know what it will be there this Sunday.
Hopefully will see you all on Zwift this Sunday!
If you have any questions, are interested, or have additional comments, please post here.

Piggybacking...There is also a Saturday ABP ride which is in its second year now. We start @ 7 AM PST/10 AM EST. The regulars on this ride are more like B/C, with FTPs in the range of 2.5-3.5. The rides are intended to serve as the Saturday OS ride, which is usually some flavor of 12' @ .8 IF, 30' @ .7, 2 x 10' @ .9, then 60' @ .8, which for many of us works out to 2.2-2.8 w/kg. Again, the calculator Brian links to above is very handy to adjust one's handicap up or down so we can stay together. On Sundays, I use it so I can ride with the Big Boys - dropping my 66 kg to 53, I can just about stay with Patrick using the same effort level he is. (The only problem with weight doping is, it lets me ride the KOMs faster, so it screws up my PRs for those segments on Zwift)
Thanks @Al Truscott ! another thing to note is that we use Discord for both these rides. The conversations make the time go by quick, and its a great way to meet other people on the team.
I just noticed that the December course schedule is out. Both Saturday and Sunday are Watopia, so we will do Watopia Figure 8.
I will also post this in the
GroupMe EN Zwift Node
The Sunday event is a great ride and a lot of fun. I always seem to ride twice as long as originally planned because the time goes by so fast with the discord conversations for entertainment.
Sorry for the newbie questions.
thanks
@Andrew Lustigman The Sunday ride starts at 8 AM EST. Getting to the meet-up point: Choose (for this Sunday) "Figure 8" in the initial Zwift dialog box, clicking on the "Change" button which appears to the right of "Route". This will drop you onto the Watopia course about 300 meters behind the start banner. *Slowly* move forward and stop just a bit before you get to the start banner, and look for other EN Zwifters nearby. OR, if you arrive late, in that same initial dialog box, you should see Brian's name in teal near the top of the list of riders, click on him and "Ride With", and you'll drop in just behind him, but be ready to start moving right away or you'll lose the draft.
BEFORE you start, make sure to switch into the "Basic 5" kit (red/black strips), and put "#EN" after your last name, so others can easily identify you.
Hi @Andrew Lustigman - The Sunday ride starts at 8:00 New York Time. The Saturday ride starts at 7:00 West Coast Time.
To get to the start banner, select Watopia Figure 8 as your course. You will be "spawned" several 100 yards from the start line. It is different every time. Soft pedal until you see a banner.
Also, it helps to follow in the Zwift Companion app as many EN athletes as you can. That way, we will be highlighted in a map in the upper right corner of your screen.
Also, We all try to wear the "Basic 5" Jersey . It is red and black. It is also helpful to put EN after you last name.
@Andrew Lustigman
Where does the Saturday ride begin
@Andrew Lustigman - read the wiki on this. but ALL rides start at the start banner. (click the box below) and then scroll down to the "virtual ride AKA Zwift section" suggest you spend the time reading each entry AND watching Tim Sullivan's 45' video...
when you enter zwift, it drops you into the world a couple of hundred yards form it and you see people sitting on the side with one leg on the ground. this is the assembly area.
once everyone starts riding, the bikes start moving on the screen.
if you know someone is going to do the ride, AKA Brian hagan, and you follow him on Zwift, you will have the ability when you first log in to choose "ride with..." and select brian from the list...
@Brian Hagan I followed the link in your Discord post to join the EN team, but that doesn't appear to be a live site anymore. Is there another link to use to be in the EN chat?
@Jeff Phillips Click on ^^^^
Thanks @Brian Hagan.
The Sunday ride is now an official ride in Zwift Events. It will start at 7:50 AM. All you need to do is sign up on the Zwift Companion App or wait till you logon in the morning.
Hi @Brian Hagan thanks for setting up the ride this morning. I was in Discord (first time) and could hear people talking but couldn't get "push to talk" to work. I was searching online during the ride and couldn't get it figured out -- any tips?
It also appears one has to be "approved" for voice activity? What is that process?
@Jeff Phillips I was going to ask you. I did not see a Jeff Phillps in there, but I saw to JPs. What is your nickname in Discord?
@Brian Hagan JP is my nickname. I changed my profile name in Discord to "Jeff Phillips Team EN".
was a fun ride this morning ! we were a big group and @Brian Hagan did a nice job leading! will try to do it every week end as my weekly ride
Thanks so much @Francis Picard ! @Jeff Phillips you are all set now.
This coming weekend will also be Watopia Figure 8.
It was a fun ride, although I slowly lagged behind after each sprint and climb. 1.5 laps in I accidentally closed zwift companion app while trying to figure out how to talk on discord. Thanks for putting this together and I hope to make a better showing in future weeks.
@Stephen Cogger what is your Discord name. I do not see you in there. Have you clicked in the invite?
@Brian Hagan My discord name is SteveC. Next time I'll figure out exactly what to push to talk so I can say hello.
I have always loved the CnC when I've been able to participate (ie, when I go to bed early enough, insert rolled eyes emoji). Thanks a ton for continuing to lead the charge @Brian Hagan !!
Did a setting in Zwift change for the Sunday CnC ride? I seems like the ride is set to stop at 90 minutes instead of riding through the "lap" banner.
@Mark Stahlkopf - Yes, @Coach Patrick requested the change a couple of weeks ago. It is now a 90 minute ride Vs. a 2 lap ride.
Is anyone interested in being an alternate ride lead for this this event in Zwift? I really do love this ride, and would hate to end it, but I realize I will miss a lot of the upcoming weeks because of travel, races and bike camps.
If you are interested, I'd be happy to take you through the format and what has worked for me.
Otherwise, I may just cancel the ride and pick it back up in July.
Thanks!
I should also note, I am out 4/28; 5/5; 5/26; 6/9; 6/16; 6/30 and 7/7. @Scott Giljum and @Robert Sabo are alternate hosts, so they should be able to pick up some of these weeks as well.
@Brian Hagan , I am slow but willing if you guys get desperate. I am available 4/28, 5/12,5/19,5/26, 6/2,6/9,6/16,6/30,7/7,7/21,8/11,8/18,8/25.
Just let me know if I can be of help to keep things rolling.
@Ralph Moore - Thanks a lot! We've decided to put this on hold as a Zwift event until the fall. I will post it as a ride in the groupme and do it old school for the Sundays I am in town this summer.
