July 2020 Alps Camp in France [Super Early Thread]
Col du Petit St Bernard. Yes, this is petite.
Making this official so there's a home and folks can plan appropriately.
This is a special camp for the 2020 season. It will be limited to 10 total athletes and I will hand pick them from prior camp participants -- if I haven’t ridden with you at a camp, you aren’t eligible. This will be an epic 8 day tour of the Alps in France, climbing many of the famous climbs from the Tour de France.
Why France? F-R-A-N-C-E. Duh! 🤷
How Much Riding? Eight epic days...seriously.
What's Included? Airport transfers, lodging, food, SAG, daily transfers, etc. You can rent or bring a bike. You pay for your flight and for your own wine...you louses.
Why Hand Picked? We are climbing serious roads and elevation. I need to know you can ride safely and keep the group together.
Timing? Looking like July 2020, but could be June depending.
Cost? Working on the details, but it depends on the timing. Ballpark cost will be between $3,000 and $3,500.
Interested? Reply here...I'll include everyone here in the messages for notifications....eventually there will be an actual application and deposit...but this is where we will flesh things out.
SAVE THE DATE!!!

in, dun, just bang my CC, Sil-vous-plait with all the french pastries @Coach Patrick can eat on top!!!
I'd like to see this in later June, early July in case I actually am thinking about IMLP, little selfish plug... any chance of having a day or two overlap with the tour mayhem? would pay extra francs for that!!! we can bring all of the applicants to VT to do a six gaps ride this fall for eligibility if you haven't ridden with them.. 😜
J'en suis, s'il vous plaît.
Yes please!
And July so we take in the TDF excitement!
sounds like fun. I don't know how to speak french though.
@Robert Sabo I think @Jeremy Behler can translate for you. But you might get better results with @Al Truscott (if accuracy is what you want)! 🤣
Wow, too awesome. However, I'll be celebrating my 25th in July 2020 and have already promised the frau that we are going to tour around Scotland ... no swimming or biking allowed (but some running)!
Def interested in this! Other non-tri commitments will dictate actual ability to do it, but still interested!
@Paul Hough , Scotland, eh? One of my ancestral homelands and one of my favorite places in the WORLD!
I am very interested in and excited about this announcement. I imagine/understand that making the cut of 10 athletes will be (highly) competitive, but I want to throw my hat in the ring. I'll start saving up $$ just in case. :) Cycling in France and being able to witness TDF in person have been very high on my bucket list for a long time! Can I get close to 4.0 W/kg by then...hmmm? (fingers crossed) Thanks!
Yes!
I prefer the monty python version of French, "I'm French! Why do think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king!"

I could drive the car with wine and translate ?
Watching this thread with some interest
Interested!
I rode the French Alps solo in 2004 and it was epic!
I am interested but probably have a way to go to hang with the fast crowd.
it to be all "fitness" based but I also don't want to have folks pay for a
camp they only ride 50% of. Depending on the size of the group, we might
(MIGHT!) be able to workout an A and B route options...so we'd start
separate with one group riding a shorter route (but still epic) but end up
at the same place each night...let me dig deeper on that...

I’m in as well!! Also info for accompanying spouses needed for me.
Aye !
personally I might prefer a quieter camp not intersecting with Tour de France crowds. But whatever is good.
I'm interested, but will depend on the A/B option. You know how I climb Patrick, other than that, I'm a fairly capable camper. I can descend if there will be any of that😂
@Dave Campbell How about we tag team - I climb and you descend :)
Interested. Will need to check air in my tires though... Sounds pretty awesome!
Honestly, curious to hear what kind of elevation challenge you would come
up with!!!!!!
~ Coach P
spouses could come ?
Otherwise might be hard to justify time away from family during summer vacation time.
tres bien! J'en suis aussi!
@Coach Patrick Late to the party but I'm interested as well!
@Carl Alleyne Got you!
Sweet! Don't ask me how many times I had to text @Carl Alleyne about this!! ;) lol. #IRecruitSoHard
