Stryd pace per mile vs. Garmin

I have looked for this discussion and can't find it. Maybe it was in GroupMe.

  1. Why is it that all my Stryd runs are recording 30 seconds slower per mile than my Garmin? These are miles with no stopping?
  2. Where in the Stryd setting can it bet set for moving time only?

@Tim Sullivan ... do you know the answers?

  • The pace I was getting from Stryd was significantly slower than my real world pace.  Stryd would read 9:00 when I was in reality running <7:30.  I had to turn off Stryd as a source of speed and distance on my Garmin 935 and only utilize it for power readings.  It would tick off the distance correctly though.  Which made it even more confusing for me.  How does the thing read 9:00 min/mile pace while I'm running, but beep and show a 7:25 pace for the mile just completed?

Same with running on a treadmill and syncing it to Zwift.   Zwift and the Stryd (via my 935) would read consistently near 1:30 a mile slower than my actual pace.

I'm sticking with GPS for pace and distance and just having Stryd give me power readings.  Been working so far.

  • I would post a question to Stryd on that one. They are very helpful. I have not seen anyone having that problem. There is an option to manually calibrate the speed. It almost seems like Stryd is not set properly.

  • @Peter Greagg @Brian Terwilliger Thank you! Very helpful links.

@Tim Sullivan I was just about to post to Stryd if I can't get it right.

  • @Sheila Leard Apart from being on the other side of the world (which slows down my responses), I would be happy to help you navigate the solution/problems

I wonder if my running style has a negative impact on Stryds ability to properly calculate speed/pace.

I generally have very low cadence for the paces I run. Using it to run on Zwift with the speed and distance settings turned off I had the following results. Treadmill speed 8:20 min/mil. Garmin 935 (in treadmill mode) was reading between 8:05 and 8:15 a mile. Zwift however was reading 9:00 min/mile and slower. My cadence was @155. The calibration setting in the treadmill mode, which I had never adjusted was 108.90.

I then turned speed and distance on, changed the calibration to 100.00. Treadmill 8:20, and now the 935 and Zwift matched at 9:00 and slower, and would regularly drop down to near 9:30 a mile. Cadence still at 155.

I may get around to hitting a local high school track and doing the calibration run Stryd suggests to see if the pod will then give me accurate speed and distance while running out on the road. But I don't know that that will change its readings when in treadmill mode on Zwift. And on the Zwift Q&A/Support page, it says they don't advise doing a Zwift calibration. But would doing one cause a problem with the Stryd settings/calibration when running on the street?
