Newbie with glute medius issues

Hi All - I'm a newbie who is quite ready to get my OS going (and am on my bike now). I've been dealing with an "insertional tear" and tendinosis of the left glute medius tendon and associated pain around the iliac crest since August, have done months of PT, and am now being told to do PRP with two weeks lay-off after that. Every time I try to re-start running with a gentle and very slow R/W sequence, I re-aggravate the injury. Swimming also seems to annoy it (too much hip rotation?). At this point, I'm considering doing a bike and strength only OS to see if I can get this under control. Has anyone else had experience with resolving this type of overuse injury?

  • @Patricia McDonough , I am so sorry to hear that you are having this issue! How frustrating!

I have not had this particular injury but I can tell you that the two most recent injuries that I had (dislocated shoulder, ITBS) took a long time to rehab. Listen to your PT and hang in there! If your PT says bike and strength, do that.

Also, ask about deep water running and swimming with pull buoy only.

    Hang in there!

  • I've not had that injury, but I had a PRP to my bicep tendon last year. It was a fail, I know some have had good results. I think i needed more than 2 weeks off from usage though. I can't recall. I am considering it for some hamstring tendonitis/ tendonosis, but I know the doc wants no running OR biking in that time frame.
