HED Jet 6+ or lightly used Roval CLX 50

Hello Team- I am purchasing my first set of legit race wheels and would like some input. I was considering the HED Jet 6+ on sale online for $1100 but my LBS also has a very lightly used set of Roval CLX 50s for $1250. Both wheelsets would come with tires and tubes but the HEDs come with wheelbags and a cassette. I am looking for the sweet spot of aero but not too squirrely in cross winds as I am a somewhat lighter rider. All the extras with the HED set seem like a great deal but I would never normally consider the Rovals as they would be a bit out of my price range for my first set. However, I am one that tends to lean towards supporting my LBS. Please advise. Lots to learn!

  • what's the depth of the HED? I really don't know, but if you have problems in winds, i wouldn't go with them. I had upped my front wheel from a 404 to a 808 and had to go back for that reason.

also, I am a believer that the differences between wheels of a certain depth are so minimal that It's less of an issue of getting the "most aero" wheel which is very debatable, vs picking what you can afford at your chosen depth and putting a low rolling resistance tire/latex tube combo on it. Also you should consider a wheel cover for the rear wheel which will give you as much benefit as a full disc in races.

lastly, the benefit of a aero helmet is considered bigger than aero wheels, but most people go for the wheels first...

  • the HED 6 plus. There's not a lot that wheel can't do.

  • Thanks to all who offered input.  I went with a HED 4+ (46mm) on front and HED 6+ (60mm) for the rear.  Looking forward to some nicer riding weather in the Midwest!  😊
