2019 IM Florida Kick Off Thread

edited February 18, 2019 5:02PM in Ironman Florida

Welcome to your official 2019 race thread! This will be home for you and your fellow teammates who are competing (and have competed) to train, learn and share with one another.

You’ll find lots of historical information here in this forum, and you can search above or use the main forum page. But it’s just as important to add your information from this year -- your workouts, volume weekends, race plans, highs and lows...it’s all here.

Race Captain - Jenniferlyn Kryvicky

Ideally your event has a race captain to lead by sharing their training and generally being a really awesome, supportive person online. If you have one, their name is ^above^ … If not, you can request to become the Race Captain via email here (just remember to tell us the race you want to lead). You’ll get a free month of EN membership and some other cool stuff as our way of saying thanks.

We have a basic schedule to support the Race Captain, you can view it here  and it’s not a ton of work. Even if you don’t have a race captain, you can all use that schedule to make sure You are connecting around the critical parts of your season.

Looking for Your Fellow Racers?

Sometimes the hardest part of getting the community around a race started is finding your fellow racers! You can do that via our Race Database (online here, password is WORKWORKS) where you can search by race name such as “Placid,” etc. Once you have a list of names, you can use the “@” sign to tag them here in this thread (so they are notified) or you can send them a private message via the Forums as well.

GroupMe Chat

If you are looking for your Race GroupMe, you can search our official GroupMe page online here. Can’t find the GroupMe because There isn’t one for your race? You can request we make one for you via email here.

Have Questions or Need Help?

No worries, we’re here to help! You can send us an email right here so we can help you out. Please be sure to reference your race forum and give as much detail as possible.

Hi all!  I am in for IMFL this year, 2nd year on the course for the full, and have also done Gulf Coast half in the same city (different swim and run courses).  I am also doing IMTX this year so it is a big year for me!  IMTX is my baseline, warmup and IMFL is the big A race for me.  I have goals to crush and cannot wait to do so with all of you!

I will be arriving Wednesday and leaving Sunday - accommodations are still TBD.  My Sister in law will be racing IMFL as her first full distance this year as well as her boyfriend who will be doing it as his 2nd.  I have sort of created a tri-monster family!  :-)

This will be IMFL #3 for me, family wanted to go back to the beach so this is how I obliged them. I typically do the same of Wed-Sunday. Has anyone started to book anything yet, just curious how hard its going to be this year after last years issues?

@Patrick Hayden, I've done IMFL x3 (including Haines City) and will be doing the Gulf Coast 70.3 this year. Panama City is my hometown and I was up there to help family dig out right after the hurricane. PCB was virtually unscathed by the hurricane and is pretty much where most relief crews were based because the housing and hotel stock was mostly untouched. Yes, a few hotels had some damage, but it was night and day compared to what happened across the bridge. PCB is completely open for business (and has been) while Panama City and environs are still devastated months later. Anyone arriving for IMFL later this year via the west or coming down Hwy 79 should have the impression that there never was a hurricane. But if you go into or through Panama City on the way to the Beach, you are going to see that the city was nearly wiped out. I will take many, many years for Panama City to recover.

This will be IM Forida number four for me. Didn't race at all in 2018, so looking forward to having a PR in 2019. I also will arrive Wed. and leave Sun. Have some friends at the race, we usually do a swim/ bike on Thursday, and a short swim on Friday. Looking forward to training and racing with everyone.

@Edwin Croucher, @Derrek Sanks and I just transferred to Florida from Maryland. I think all three of us are staying at The Summit, just east of the Boardwalk Resort. I'll be there mid-day Wednesday to mid-day Sunday.

Competitively, I probably should have stuck with Maryland, as Derrek is in my AG and he's almost as fast as he is smart. But racing/vacationing with those two is so much fun, in this case fun > competitiveness.

This will be IMFL #4 for me. I have a lot of fond memories from this race, and it has provided me with no shortage of firsts:

    • first IM start
    • first jelly sting
    • first flat tire in a race
    • first major mechanical in a race
    • first puke while biking
    • first puke while running
    • first med tent IV
    • first sub-4 mary
    • first IM finish

Looking forward to meeting new people and seeing old faces.

@Mike Roberts , This will be IMFL #2. You were there for the first. I'll be tapping into your experience in general and specifically at this race. This is a replacement/deferral race for me. I am excited at the prospect of just racing. This last weekend I crashed my bike while training for IMMD. I was really looking forward to that race and felt I was doing all the right things for a great finish. It's funny how all that can change in only a second. At 51 miles of a 100 mile ride I went down. The end results were multiple broken ribs and a partially collapsed lung. 5 days later I am chomping to get back training. Now, if I can use the non-triathlete brain and let my body heal, I have enough time to get ready for a great event with all of you.

This will be my IMFL #2, and my 3rd attempt at the IM Distance in 1 year lol

I have had a horrible 2018/2019 leading up to this but I am back in the game mentally and ready to get it done with a smile!

My IM history is really not that great...

IMFL in 2012 - finished in 16:05 (Before EN)

    IMFL 2018 - Transferred to IMTX 2019,

IMTX 2019 DNF due to medical on the bike (caused by medical on the swim),

IMFL 2019 - Hoping to finish given a current hip issue taking my running to 0, but not giving up! In showing up and doing what I can until the finish!

    IMTX 2020 - Redemption race
