IMAZ Tri-Rally Planning Thread

TeamEN IMAZ,

I'm considering bringing our Tri-Rally show to the IMAZ course in...probably October. We had 60 people at LP, will be 100+ at WI next weekend...just a great thing to keep on rolling and AZ is only a 5hr drive away so...

  • I want to do this on the weekend of your first race rehearsal. I hates doing calendar math. Can you tell me what weekend that would be?
  • I will run this out of a host hotel: lodging, presentations, etc, ideally very, very close to downtown. I've always stayed on the other side of T-Town Lake. Any suggestions for a downtown venue?
  • Would like to do a swim clinic on Thursday. Possible venues?

Anything else?

  • This could be awesome....looking forward to see what happens...
  • I believe Week 6 falls on Columbus Day weekend (9-11 Oct) or 7 Oct if you start on a Thursday.
  • This would be great. Nationals is the weekend before but I'll be up for the on-site RR. Not the greatest weekend for me, but oh well. I was planning on doing a RR there the last weekend of October (3 weeks prior to race day) which was probably going to be my last chance to ride outside prior to the race. I can only go to Phoenix once but would prefer to go for a rally.
  • yeah sounds good.  keep me posted.

i think any side of the lake would be fine.  sharing rooms would be cool, if anyone is interested,  to help defer cost.

arizona state would be a close by place for a swim clinic, but i don't know cost or logistics.  i seem to recall that around that time there was a 2.4mile swim in the actual lake, put on by some organization.  would be cool if it happened on the same weekend.  i'll see if i can find info on that.

the run loop course is engraved in my muscle memory, in case you need specifics.

    looking forward to more details.

  • G - I just surfed it up...it apparently was incorporated into a year long Arizona Open Water Series in 2010 with a finale in Tempe Town Lake on Nov 7. It's 1000, 2000, or 4000m with an option to combine the 1000 and 4000 for 5K. Website is http://dcbadventures.com/dcb/DCB/AZOWS_5.html. Same distances are held Oct 16 (#4 in the series) at Pleasant Valley Harbor but that date doesn't work either.
  • This sounds cool, i will try and make it..
  • @Rich - Is this thing gonna happen?  When might we know so we can start making arrangements?

Terry, yes, it will happen. Let me continue to work some things back here before we are ready to make a formal announcement. Thanks.

  • Thank you, Rich.

Saguaro Lake for a swim venue - pretty close to town and accessible via Beeline Highway - they have an open water swim race there so it must be suitable for swimming

Here is a hotel - it is right at the bike course turnaround, has meeting facilities, group rates (including free room for the "organizer"), free hot breakfast, free shuttle service for groups

    Just some ideas.

  • Didn't see this thread until now - somehow the forum subscribe button is not catching new posts.

Glad to see this happening. Sad that I won't be there; I have a previous engagement on October 9th. I guess you could call it my RR for IM AZ!

  • Didn't even think about that weekend being Kona. My guess is that Rich won't be able to do it then.
  • Well...I'm in for sure. Just booked my flights so I'll be there all Friday and Saturday leaving Sunday. I will be doing RR #1 on the course Saturday and trying to swim at one of the lakes on Friday. Hopefully this rally will happen but I figure the coaches are going to be tied up with Kona. I'd love to have company if anyone could make it.
  • Hey Guys,

I'm officially pulling the plug on this and hopefully can make it happen for everyone next year. Sorry to get your hopes up!
