AT IM Boulder Pre-Race Notes
After 30+ IMs, and more than a score of race plans, I'm paring it down a bit this time. Herewith my pre-race notes:
• Goal: Return to Kona. One of the 7 competitors in my AG already has a slot; if he's ahead of me, don't race him for first at the expense of over-taxing my knee. Just keep the steady 10-11'/mile pace I'm sure I can manage. Beat everyone else no matter what.
• Set a good example for smart execution, efficient time and problem management, pacing, and nutrition.
• Stay in the moment at all times. What's past is done, over, can't be changed. What's coming is created by what I am doing Right Now.
• Numbers to remember: Bike power 130 +/- 15; Run HR 110-120.
• Numbers to observe: Bike % grade, bike HR, bike and run cadence, run mile pace.
• Numbers to ignore: Time, speed
• NUTRITION! Minimum 110 oz fluid, 1760 calories on the bike, slightly front-loaded.
This is what I do, this is what I am.

Gotta love this plan!
Al, good luck and will be following your race
Keep at the reductionist approach to Race Plans, and by Kona, you'll just have to prep a haiku!
Looking forward to (e-) watching you in action Al. Now get off your feet and take a bunch of taper naps!
