Rory Gumina's 2019 Eagleman Race Plan

Another great Team EN event! … Lots of fun seeing old EN friends, and meeting new ones!


Overall: 4:36:39 … 4th in AG


Swim: cancelled due to weather (T1 no longer applicable)


Bike: 2:34:49 (182 watts, 0.81 IF) ... 2nd AG

·       5 min faster than goal … watts and IF on target (175 watts for 15", then hold 190 watts)

·       Wind & rain … but not hot

·       TT style start made for interesting navigation to avoid drafting, but no real issues from about 10 miles on

·       Drank ~1.5 bottles GE per hour … peed once (last 10 miles)

·       Clif gel before start, 1/2 Clif bar every hour, base salt every 15 miles

·       No mechanicals


T2: 3:04 … 1st AG

·       Feet out of shoes at end of Bike, then run hard to rack

·       Socks on (trislide in toe area), shoes on, start running w/Go bag

·       Number belt on, hat, and Hot Shot while running


Run: 1:58:47 ... 12th AG

·       Plan was race with Power, targeting 240 watts 1st half, then holding/building as possible

·       Stryd power pod stopped transmitting power after mile 1 so reverted to Pace, RPE

·       HR elevated miles 6 & 7 so had to back off … but was able to recover and increase pace a bit

·       Hydration: GE every station except last one … ice for Run Saver 1st station only (wind/rain kept temps down)

·       Nutrition: Caf gel every 4 miles, starting mile 1 … and Base salt 2 miles after gel


Overall: 4:36:39 … 4th AG (of 70)


It was great to have completed 2019 Eagleman 70.3, and to have raced with EN teammates!
