converting regular Gatorade to Gatorade Endurance.

i have a bunch of regular premade Gatorade in 20 oz bottles. Want to convert to Gatorade Endurance for training and race practice.

I probably could figure this out myself. But in case anyone has figured this out already :

how much salt (in teaspoon fractions) do i add to each 20 oz bottle ? to at least approximate the sodium.

and add salt substitute to approximate the potassium ?

thanks.

  • @robin sarner the only help I can provide is that 1/4 tsp salt = 590mg sodium. If you use light salt it will have 290mg sodium AND 350mg potassium! You'll have to pull out basic algebra to get your proportions if you want to be exact with your conversion, but you can probably ball park it.

    @Sue DeJesus

    thanks.

i think i worked it out:

    into each 20 oz bottle.

1/8 (bit less) teaspoon salt. NaCl.

    1/16 teaspoon. salt substitute. KCl.

Can't get it to work with the light salt. which is combo of the above.

  • Just a thought, check out Gatorade Gatorlytes as an easy option. It's comes in small packets of power (780 mg sodium/400 mg potassium and has calcium and magnesium). Gatorade recommends adding one packet to a 20 oz. bottle of Gatorade Thirst Quencher or Low calorie G2.

  • thanks @Derrek Sanks

looks like about a half packet to the bottle makes Endurance.

  • an aside, i do not like Endurance. if I have to live off the course, I prefer regular Gatorade. but on this continent, in the usa, Endurance is what we get for Ironman.

I have carried my own mixes in the past but do not want to go back to that.

So I use Endurance during long bike and long run training to train the stomach.

I start off with 2-3 bottles of regular Gatorade on the bike. And when the tolerance of Endurance declines, go to more water and gels. and the occasional salt capsule.

  • I like this idea @robin sarner . Regular Gatorade powder and salt are cheap (I'm guessing KCl salt substitute is pretty cheap too). I'm not sure if I'll bother to hassle with it, but Gatorade Endurance (GE) powder is pretty expensive if I recall correctly. I may have to give this a shot. Thanks! Did you use less Gatorade powder, since it has more calories per serving than GE? Thanks for the idea! I'll check cost of gatorlytes vs. GE too @Derrek Sanks , thanks for suggestion.

  • i don't vary the powder. the powders have same calories per volume if mixed per respective directions and scoops. the bottles are different by 10 calories maybe.

  • Ahhh. Cool, thanks @robin sarner ! I guess I hadn’t looked closely enough at the two. You are right about the calories being the same. Thanks!
