Miami Triathlon contacts?

Hi all - I'm looking into the feasibility of staying a week in Miami (or vicinity) on my way to IM Cozumel this November - coming from a UK winter an extra week of acclimatising would be  a good idea me thinks.

I have to connect flights in Miami (+overnight stay) in any case so the plan would be to fly out a week early solo, stay in Miami & then meet my wife Jules at MIA off her London flight.

Anyone have any ideas or connections in the area that could help out with info on cheap places to stay & safe training areas etc?

Quick google search came up with Miami Uni Tri Club which may be an idea - thinking cheap rooms & 50m pool!

Thought it worth asking, thanks!

Dave

  • Thanks Patrick - I googled & found a Miami Tri club - http://www.teamhammerheads.com/ - I'll try emailing them to get their input too, have you come across any of their members before? I guess it doesn't have to be Miami itself, could hire a car and drive to a more suitable location - I guess its the bike training which is the issue.
  • I've met a couple of 'hammerheads' when I've raced in Miami. Seems like a nice club!
  •  David,

I just moved a little north from Miami, and am now in Boca Raton (about 50 miles north). I know a fair number of triatheletes in the Ft. Lauderdale area (about 30 miles north of Miami).

I can't give you a lead on places to stay down that way, but there are some decent training options.

Depending on how fast you go, I will come down and train with you or pick you up to come train with me.

By the way, where are you staying in Cozumel? I haven't booked yet.

  • Thanks for the info Elias, I'm struggling so far to get an understanding of good locations - I'll PM you if I may.

Regarding Cozumel - we're booked into the Cozumel Palace Hotel, 'the Mrs' insisted on an all-inclusive hotel whereas I'd have preferred a condo - so, I'll be watching her drink cocktails!
Looks a nice place & smack in the middle of the town, so registration & T2 all to hand.
  • Hi Elias - can't get messaging to work - can you please email me on flintie@gmail.com and I'll reply. Thanks!
