You know you do it so just admit to it here.

Riding into work today I see a gentleman all decked out in HTC wear hammering and I thought who is he thinking he is (in a good way)  I know I day dream while I out riding sometimes. Usually I am hinicapie leading Lance up a big mountain stage, or just hammering the flats with the train behind me.

Maybe you are leading out Cavendish or Thor or maybe you are one of them.

So fess up I know I can not be the only one.

  • I confess, sometimes I want to be Thomas Voeckler, noodling along at the back end of the peloton. or sometimes going out on another doomed breakaway, just to get more TV time. At least he KNOWS he's not one of the big boys.

  • Funny story...a buddy of mine was riding in an organized weeknight ride with a bunch of people, and some guy shows up in US Postal kit (this was a few years back!). Well, the peloton starts snickering about the poser in their midst...until the guy took his turn up front and slammed the hurt on. He was wearing HIS team kit, and had been injured and was in the rehab process. The snickering ended rather abruptly!
  • I know Rich wants to be Jens Voigt. HAHA

I think Nemo and Kitima want to be with or part of Fabian "Spartacus". HAHA

Leigh is there with Ivan Basso.

Personally, I changed some of my road bike handling 'moves' and positions after watching a lot of Spartacus at PRBX and Flanders. Heck, why not - couldn't hurt, right?!?
  • Alphonse from the Radio Shack commercials.
  • Tour geeks?  Nah!

I simply want to ride like Dan Socie, The Halligan or Tom Glynn.  They are soft spoken and they let their riding speak for themselves.

You beat me to it, Jorge!

  • Dang. I was about to make a snarky comment about dropping Strauss at ToC (yeah, that's right I dropped Rich) but Stark chimes in with something nice. Another day image
  • I envision those camera shots of the peloton hunting down the lone breakaway rider whenever I get really tired....must, keep, pushing!!
  • Speaking of posers...

I have some buddies in the 4.5+ watt/kg range. We were finishing up a 4 hr ride and caught this guy riding in a pro team kit as we were TTing home. He wasn't wearing a helmet. Someone remarked about him not wearing a helmet and the kit with a laugh. Keep in mind that we were pace lining... He road us off his wheel and we didn't see him again. As we were getting our lunch handed to us, the most learned cyclist in the group commented that it was Chris Horner who has a coach that lives here.

Today.... I'm the motorized doping version of FC!
