I got a Ventum! (But did I match my bike fit?)

So here's the scoop. I have a Cannondale Slice that's served me well for the last 5+ years; I had a professional fit when I got it and haven't had any problems with body mechanics and am able to be comfortable in aero for long periods. I recently bought a like-new Ventum from a teammate who is about the same size as me. I've adjusted the seat to be comparable to my Cannondale and it feels very similar. I haven't spent time on trainer or on the road so don't have data yet, but I'm looking for initial feedback to see if there are any 'red flags' you see based on photos below. Thanks!

  • Todd at ttbikefit.com does both in person, as well as video bike fitting.

I can't speak too highly of his service. I live in Australia and he helped me set up my last TT bike.

In fact, this coming winter (southern hemisphere), I am going to get him to have another look at my fit as I now have a Specialised Shiv, and want to see if I can squeeze a little bit more of free speed.

Also, if he can't improve your fit, he doesn't charge you.

EN may still get a discount(we used to)?

Impossible to tell. You seem to have a lower heel on the ventum, but it could be a camera angle, a dip in your hip, or a zillion other variables.

You might benefit from taking the cannondale to a shop that does retul and have them snap a shot that would provide all of the relevant coordinates for the cannondale (my local shop did this for me for about 25 bucks, I think) and... then replicate each on the ventum. This definitely gets you into the right neighborhood, and you could then tinker by microadjustments (and I’m talking mm’s not cm’s) here and there as you get back on the road.

Beautiful new bike, in any case!

Congratulations on the new bike! Beautiful!

Just based on the photos you've posted, I'd say your position isn't identical. I think it's actually slightly better on the Ventum. You look like you have a little more reach on the front end, which is helping flatten your back a little bit and create a little more space between your knee and elbow at the top of the pedal stroke. It does look to me like your saddle might be a little high, but it's tough to tell from just a photo. I'd definitely recommend getting a fit and checking all the critical angles.

For comparison, here's a snapshot of my knee angle from my last fit. Your knee angle looks to be somewhat more straight than that. How's your pedal stroke in that position? Is it pretty smooth, or are your hips rocking at all?

  • no comments on the fit, but holy shit your new whip is so gangster. I love it, congrats!

  • I just swapped out my bike for a Ventum. It's been a real struggle to get it to fit properly and I've had a lot of back and forth with them. I'm still tweaking it. I had my original tri bike fit by TTBikeFit.com about 10 years ago and I learned a ton. Money well spent. I decided to use Todd again to help get this dialed in. There is an app called Hudl Technique that you can use to look at some of your angles if you want to get an idea of where you are currently. Here are a couple of shots of mine.

  • Same is possible with coache's eye https://www.coachseye.com/

I've used the android app and it pretty good as well
