[EN] Adjusting Your Preliminary Training 🔧

Having a plan is only part of the path to success. It's how you adapt when your plan hits reality that defines the quality of your performance.

-

If the adventure is as much about the journey as it is the destination, then it makes sense to really focus on a good journey.

I don't know about you, but I have some serious road trip rules when it comes to traveling with the family. Nothing crazy, but they help make sure that the process of getting from Point A to Point B is as straightforward as possible.

Here's a quick sample:
* Fill up the car with gas the day before.
* Get some emergency snacks for when someone melts down (usually me).
* No technology for the first 30 minutes or the last 30 minutes.
* When we stop for the bathroom, everyone goes.

These were all created from experience. Like the time we had to stop for gas when we were already late. Or the time we had to find another random bathroom 20 minutes after finding a random bathroom.

In a not-so-strange way, every season itself is another version of that same road trip. While you might be dreading those changes, remember this also a way to make sure that you get incrementally better each season.

For example:
* If you know that your core is weak on race day each year...you can add 10' of core to Monday and Friday each week.
* If your body composition is a bit more than you'd like to see...you can start setting interim goals to keep you on track.
* If your run shoes seem to give out just as you start to taper...you can treat yourself to some new kicks a little earlier each year.

Remember that small, incremental changes add up to BIG results!

From the Podcast

Tune in to listen to our podcast channel to listen to Coach Patrick's advice on how best to handle the inevitable issues the arise at the start of each season.

Training, like life, is nothing more than a series of unplanned events coming at you at full speed requiring you to adapt and change on the fly. Whether it’s sudden changes in weather, health, work, etc., there’s always something on the daily agenda that is trying to take you away from executing the plans that you have put in place.

This podcast is all about making sure that these interim decisions are just as well executed as the outline of the season you created earlier this year.
