Swimming and COVID-19

edited March 15, 2020 2:10PM in Community Forum 🏠

Is it safe to go to the gym to swim? I swim at an indoor pool at a Y. I'm wondering if the smart thing to do these days would be to hit the pause button. Any thoughts?

I know that @Coach Patrick mentioned that he's working on some team guidance. I'm hoping that will include suggestions for at-home alternatives.

Thanks!

P.S. I have various exercise bands already. Is there a particular type best for dryland workouts? Is particular handle/paddle recommended? Is there anything that can be done with a TRX with regards to swimming?

I'm just trying to navigate this without putting my parents at risk.

  • I think North America Ys have now received a directive to shut down, as I hear.

  • I'm not surprised. My Y has been slowing shutting things down. No climbing wall, no youth sports, no childcare, no swim lessons, no steam room or sauna, no events, no youth programs, no pick up sports. And yet, group fitness has gone on.

All gyms in most counties in TX are now shut down, so no more indoor pools.

I have several tri friends of mine talking about hitting the open water, fully wetsuit-ed of course!
