Equipment matters. Don’t get us wrong. But the fastest version of you isn’t just on the latest and most expensive tech-on-two-wheels. Faster you isn’t shopping online, she’s out on the bike mastering new skills.
It’s been said that 10,000 hours are required to master any particular skill. I think the definition of “mastery” is completely subjective. And honestly, moving from a poor cyclist to a good cyclist is a massive improvement.
That said there are few shortcuts on the road to better skills. You have to know what you want to do. You have to find a path to learning it. And you have to practice. Expect to fail...it’s called learning. Eventually you’ll pick up the skill you are seeking. Even more importantly, you’ll have started building a pathway to learning that will make adding additional new skills even easier!
As you plan out your own adventure, be sure to check in with your teammates and capture everything you can. You never know who you might inspire!
