FT test results vs PMC charts

With rest & test week up on my schedule this week,  I'm wondering if anyone has compared their FT tests to their PMC chart data and what the differentials are?  I think I remember Rich saying that if you set the scaling on the PMC in WKO to say abt 4, and looking at last 30 days consistent amt of data, that typically where the big droppoff is in power, is about where your FT usually is.  I have no issue riding hard but tests sometime get into my head.  Will be doing FT tonight coming off bit of an injury, so not sure how accurate results will be.  Want to have a healthy backup plan so wondering what other peeps have found on this?

Thanks

  • Kris, I think you refering to the power distribution charts. During the OS my ftp based on the largest drop off in power vs my ftp test results are almost always in the same 10 watt bucket. Throughout the season they seem to decouple a little more though, i'm not sure if it is because we are not doing as much work above FTP in the HIM/IM plans or if it is because I have more fatigue in my legs and don't test as well.

I personally use both. I force myself to do the scheduled FTT as I see then as a good workout and mental challenge, but I compare the result to the "bin method".

For training, I pick the higher of the two and set that as my FTP to work towards.

For racing, I pick the lower of the two to be safe.
  • How did the test go? Do you even need a back up plan??? image
