Evergreen Lake Sprint - First DNF
I raced the Evergreen Lake Sprint yesterday. This was my first race of the season. Just doing it for fun but really wanted to nail it.
Swim - 500m
The water was 82 degrees, so no wetsuit. I had a solid swim. Not sure of my split. A few guys in my wave got out ahead of me at the gun and then nobody passed me the entire swim. I caught the previous wave before the turn around. Karin thought I was 4th out of the water.
Bike - 42K
Had a great ride. Don't know what my FTP is but I was targeting 250-260 watts based on my training. I was passing a lot of people from the beginning since I was in a later wave. At around 20.5 miles I hear this high picthed noise and thought it was from someone else's bike who was passing me. Not so. A few seconds later, it popped. I pulled over and changed my tube pretty quickly. Got the new tube in and it flatted right away. I checked the rim first and didn't see anything and the first flat seemed like my tube expanded and popped anyway. Maybe the tube was bad. Either way, that was it. I was done. I got a ride in from a volunteer.
I was averaging 23.4 mph with an NP of 247. Very disappointing! I need to scope out another race for retribution. I would ahve had a good shot at placing. Only three people passed me on the ride and none of them were in my AG.

That stinks Matt! Yes you need another race to vindicate yourself.
Matt,
Did you think about going cyclocross and running the bike in?
That's a bummer, but at least it wasn't an A race, right? Good luck in the next one.
Dave
@Dave - Thank goodness I didn't have to run it in! It was my "a" race, as in uh race.
that sucks, but then, it was only a sprint. Hopefully your getting flats in races karma is good for years...
Halligan is funny!
Sorry that happened, Matt. I know you were ramping mentally and physically for this one. As noted, find another and kill it!
